COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Richard Reuer, a retired volunteer at Minot Pizza Ranch—who has coordinated wreath sponsorships and volunteer efforts for ten years—continues to honor local veterans by partnering with the Civil Air Patrol to support the Wreaths Across America initiative. He will join the squadron on October 25th at 10 a.m. to plant crosses at Rosehill Cemetery, and volunteers will lay wreaths on December 13th at 10 a.m. for a ceremony held at noon. Northern Sentry
- ➤ The Pride of Dakota Showcase in Minot adds culinary demonstrations and an Ag in the Classroom booth where kids can decorate mini pumpkins and learn about agriculture — over 100 vendors are participating. The free event runs today from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the State Fair Center. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Residents at the home of Steven, Alexis and Melissa Hoffart at 5116 16th Ave. SE #295 in Minot have set up spooky Halloween displays that invite neighbors to drop pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House on the ramp—adding fun to the local holiday season. Minot Daily News
- ➤ Minot Area Chamber EDC’s WayFinder program connects newcomers and military members so far—45 have applied and 13 have been matched. Local mil spouse Jenetta Sawyer used her connection to pass a law in April that now lets home bakers ship treats out-of-state. Northern Sentry

- ➤ The Northwest Arts Center is presenting its 30th annual 'INT’L All Media 2025' Exhibition through Dec. 20 at the Walter Piehl Gallery at Minot State University—featuring over 40 works from US and Japanese artists. Juror Melissa Monroe will lead an art seminar today at noon and the show also includes a solo exhibition by Jacob Crook. Minot Daily News
- ➤ The Scandinavian Heritage Association received a grant from the N.D. Department of Commerce to upgrade the old Dala Horse in Scandinavian Park—plans call for expanding it to be the biggest in North America. The work will begin next year as the park figures out what to do with the existing statue. KFYR-TV

- ➤ On Oct 21, the Spirit Lake Tribal Council declared a state of emergency and is preparing to provide extra food and heating support if the federal shutdown continues past Oct 31—members of the United Tribes of North Dakota have urged state officials to keep programs like SNAP and WIC running with families advised to switch to local assistance by Oct 28; local agencies in Minot reported no LIHEAP disruptions as of Oct 23. - ➤ Minot crews tested the stop logs at a gap in the floodwall near 8th Avenue SW on Thursday to check that the barrier works properly (the section built with five uprights and 120 logs stands about 14 feet tall as part of routine measures following the 2011 flood). KFYR-TV

- ➤ Ascend Wellness, a downtown yoga studio, has grown into a hub where local residents and newcomers gain strength and calm through classes that range from gentle flows to power sessions. The studio offers military discounts (for active duty and spouses) and hosts community events such as outdoor sessions to help ease the transition for those new to Minot. Northern Sentry
- ➤ Deb’s Circle of Friends Annual Soup Cook-off will be held tomorrow from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 502 17th St. NW as a tribute to cancer fighter Deb Helland; proceeds will benefit Trinity CancerCare Center for staff and patient services and cooking teams registered by Oct. 3 will compete for awards. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Minot North football team crushed the Stanley Blue Jays 49 to 14 while the boys' soccer team won 5 to 3 against the Mandan Braves earlier this month. The Minot North Cheer Team impressed at the Jamestown football game and will compete in the Mustang Monster Mash Competition in West Fargo on October 25th—showing strong school spirit. - ➤ Former boxing champion Virgil 'Quicksilver' Hill is in Minot to host the first Magic City Mayhem pro boxing event this Saturday at Minot Auditorium—he said he trained the Lopez twins for their pro boxing debut and noted the show will feature a bout between the Marines’ Misael De La Cruz and Willie Johnican from Minot Air Force Base.
