- ➤ Companions for Children is expanding its mentorship programs Lunch Pals—serving several local schools, including one for students with disabilities—and Pen Pals, and is asking local residents to volunteer as student needs grow. Volunteers must be 18 or older, live within 15 miles and complete a background check, interview and training while a $2,000 sponsorship supports one school site for a year. Minot Daily News

- ➤ A 23-year-old New Town man died and a 19-year-old Parshall man was injured when the 2013 KTM 250SXF dirt bike he was riding lost control on Peninsula Road in the 4 Bears Marina area west of New Town on Aug. 13 at 3:26 p.m.—the Highway Patrol said the bike struck a fence and ejected the riders. - ➤ A Minot woman identified as 45 year old Cassandra Dee Brekke was arrested after fleeing police in a stolen 2015 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup on Wednesday, Aug. 13 near Airport Road—officers punctured her tires with spike strips before taking her into custody and she now faces charges for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, fleeing an officer and reckless driving while the investigation continues.
