  • Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot opened its 7,300 square foot African Plains Building on World Giraffe Day, June 21, to offer enriched indoor care for its giraffes during North Dakota winters. Earlier in the spring, the zoo welcomed four critically endangered Amur tiger cubs born on May 19 and will debut them on July 29 — it also released a new children’s book about tiger cub Zoya to support its conservation efforts.  Northern Sentry

  • Zach and Asher Lutz have opened Second Snaps at 110 1st St SE Lower East Suite—taking over after Grow With Me closed when its owner retired.   • The MAGIC Fund Committee moved United Pulse Trading Inc.'s loan request forward on Thursday to the next stage for final approval by the Minot City Council, seeking a $269,231 forgivable loan to support a $12.75 million expansion of its Extrusion Center of Excellence in Minot. The project will add two gluten free pasta production lines and boost capacity from 4,000 to 20,000 metric tons by the end of 2026—addressing rising market demand.  Minot Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Minot’s Scandinavian Heritage House holds two centuries of immigrant history and was once known as the Scott House; the building was moved after a 1969 flood and later restored (with local volunteers) for use as a museum. The free museum (open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday with limited hours on Sunday) displays artifacts including a 200-year-old grandfather clock from Berthold.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from North Plains and Dakota Elementary Schools wrapped up their first week of summer school with a walking field trip to the Bowling Center on Minot Air Force Base—where manager Mike and volunteers from the 891st Missile Security Forces Squadron helped keep the outing safe. The event offered a chance for fun and exercise while strengthening community ties.  Northern Sentry

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Retired Air Force pilot Gary Lee, 93, visited Minot Air Force Base on June 14th to tour the modern B-52H—the aircraft he had not flown despite piloting earlier models during his Air Force career from 1955 to 1975—and he shared his memories of deployments and multiple roles.  Northern Sentry
