CRIME NEWS

  • Faith Anne Almond, 28 from Plaza, pleaded guilty to carrying fentanyl to sell along with two drug-related charges after a Feb. 9 traffic stop found fentanyl, methamphetamine, and drug tools, and North Central District Court sentenced her to serve 18 months with corrections—crediting 125 days served—and ordered three years of probation, a chemical dependency test, and $1,250 in fines.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot man Todd Behm, 54, pleaded guilty to the financial exploitation of an eligible adult and was sentenced before Judge Douglas Mattson on Thursday to a 10-year sentence with 30 days to be served—he also will face three years of probation and restrictions on using the victim’s finances.  Minot Daily News
  • A Minot man named Eric Jason Faul, 48, pleaded guilty to possessing meth with intent to distribute and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia in North Central District Court and was sentenced to serve 3 years in corrections—his sentence also includes 360 days for a misdemeanor, supervised probation, and $900 in fines.  Minot Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Four candidates—Mark Jantzer, Paul Pitner, Rob Fuller and Josiah Roise—qualified for the Aug. 5 ballot in the Minot mayoral race after submitting petitions with at least 300 valid signatures, and the winning candidate will complete the rest of Tom Ross's term after his resignation on April 1.  Minot Daily News
  • Judge Douglas Mattson retired after 23 years on the bench in a special ceremony held on Monday in Minot. He served as a prosecutor and state legislator before becoming a judge and now plans to spend his retirement visiting presidential libraries and enjoying time with his wife — marking a new chapter in his career.  KFYR-TV
  • Four candidates qualified for the special mayoral ballot after each submitted at least 300 signatures verified by city officials on Monday and the ballot order was randomly drawn (Josiah Roise, Mark Jantzer, Paul Pitner and Rob Fuller). The special election will be held on August 5 and the winner will serve the remaining term until next June and must run again if they wish to keep the office (campaign disclosures are due June 27–July 4).  KFYR-TV
  • Today at Minot Air Force Base the 5th Comptroller Squadron holds finance training sessions for military and civilian personnel, limiting office hours to appointments from 9 a.m. to noon and closing for focused training from 1-3 p.m. The sessions meet mandatory contingency requirements and work to improve the squadron’s readiness in managing budgets and fiscal oversight.  Minot Daily News
  • At Monday's meeting, the city council tied 3-3 on a plan to change cash reserve rules by setting a minimum reserve at 30% of next year's budget and keeping a maximum of 75%. Some council members said the plan returned too little cash to taxpayers—others argued it would limit funds for needed projects—so no change was made.  Minot Daily News

  • Hannah Pederson was hired as the development officer at Trinity Health Foundation to build donor relations and plan events while cultivating annual, major and planned gifts.
