CULTURE NEWS

  • A Minot columnist reflects on the family’s ongoing grief over the loss of November Sky Reinoehl — who died in a car accident on Sept. 28 — and describes keeping personal mementos like a memorial ornament and a painted wall as signs of remembrance during the holiday season.  Minot Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Minot State University’s Lifelong Learning Institute will offer ceramics classes in spring 2026, featuring weekly and monthly open studio sessions from Feb. 3 to April 14 on Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. in the Ceramics Studio at historic Pioneer Hall, with children 12 and older registering with a parent.  Minot Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Minot got an unusual 0.04 inches of freezing rain on Christmas night, a rare occurrence for December, as meteorologist Meghan Chada noted. She explained that a shifting jet stream has increased freezing events this winter & urged extra caution on slippery roads.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former Gov. Allen Olson died Friday, Dec. 26 at age 87 — he served as the state’s 28th governor and attorney general and helped launch key state services before relocating to Minnesota. Funeral arrangements are pending.  Minot Daily News
  • ND VOAD held a meeting on Dec. 16 to install new board officers, reviving the group after low capacity since the COVID-19 pandemic. The nonprofit will coordinate disaster response to extreme weather events that set records in 2025.  Minot Daily News
