COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dakota Chappy in Minot is hosting the Something for Mom program today, offering free clothing, jewelry, Christmas cards and wrapping materials from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Women and supporters can visit the store's lower level on N Broadway to pick up their gifts.  KFYR-TV
  • On Dec. 11, National Guard members brought Christmas cheer to the North Dakota Veterans Home at Lisbon — sharing a meal, gifts and warm conversation — while local veteran Ernest Hoelscher and Capt. Amanda Tang joined in the celebration.  Minot Daily News
  • On Dec. 17, volunteers from local groups gathered at Minot AFB to package over 10,000 cookies for first-term airmen living in dorms who spend the holidays away from home (part of the annual Team Minot Cookie Drive).  Minot Daily News

  • Central Brew is closing its downtown location in the Brick + Mortar District on Dec. 31; the business will focus on The Station coffee shop on South Broadway while its kiosk at Minot Air Force Base remains open for gift card redemptions.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Applications for the Base Enhancement Grant Program are open to fund military missions and support eligible nonprofits, chambers and political subdivisions in Minot, Grand Forks and Fargo (offering nearly $1M in funds). Proposals must be submitted electronically by Jan. 21 with projects completed by June 30, 2027 (deadline requirements apply).  KFYR-TV
  • ND DOT announced winners of its fifth annual contest to name snowplows (over 800 entries submitted) including Minot’s Betty Whiteout. Winners will meet the plow operator and see their chosen names permanently on the plow.  KFYR-TV
  • North Dakota will award 279 grants over the next two years from its BEAD program to bring full high-speed internet access to every area. The plan aims to give more users fast internet + boost tech growth in the region.  KFYR-TV
  • Four U.S. Senators introduced legislation to reauthorize the Wildlife Crossings Program (granting funds for culverts, underpasses and bridges) to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions across North Dakota. The bill, backed by the state Department of Transportation, is set to create safer roadways and improve outdoor recreation.  Minot Daily News

  • Minot High and Minot North boys swimming and diving teams competed at the Capital City Invite at the Bismarck State Aquatic Center on Saturday, Dec. 20 — the Magicians scored 305.5 with Tayson Solper earning the top dive while the Sentinels placed seventh.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot United girls hockey snapped a four-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over Fargo Davies on Dec. 20. Ayla Jackson’s goal ended a 182:13-minute scoreless run + moved the team one point closer to a state tourney spot as they face Williston on Dec. 30 at 6 p.m.  Minot Daily News
