COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Make-A-Wish kid Castle Twogood (10) enjoyed a surprise day on Friday at Minot Air Force Base, riding in military vehicles and watching a K-9 demonstration after months of recovery from rare cancer. He now looks forward to visiting the base again.  KFYR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The North Dakota State Fair announced that singer Jessie Murph will perform on Sunday, July 19 + the event will provide a lively summer concert for local music fans.  KFYR-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The ND Game and Fish Department has outlined winter fishing rules to protect local fish stocks. Anglers must follow limits such as using a maximum of four poles and marking ice holes larger than 10 inches — guidelines designed for a simple, safe fishing experience.  Minot Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Dakota officials said the $1,600 Primary Residence Credit cut taxes for roughly 50,000 households—about 30% of eligible homes—with an average reduction of 41%, and that new online applications will open Jan. 1.  Minot Daily News
  • U.S. Navy Adm. Rich Correll and U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. JoAnn Naumann visited Minot AFB on Tuesday, Dec. 16, to tour the base’s two nuclear triad legs; they inspected the B-52H Stratofortress + Minuteman III ICBMs and praised the airmen’s performance.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot Rural Fire Department chief Rex Weltikol ended his 33-year firefighting career at a retirement party held on Dec. 19 and will hand over leadership to longtime firefighter Darrin Mineke on Jan. 5.  Minot Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Central McLean Cougars overcame a first-half deficit by hitting eight 3-pointers in the second half—by switching to a 4-out 1-in offense—to edge top-ranked Our Redeemer’s 57-54 in the tournament semifinal on Friday, Dec. 19. The Cougars will face No. 4 Ray for the championship match today at 6 p.m.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot hosted the 2025 State Basketball Tournament for Special Olympics ND where 28 teams, including 302 athletes plus 50 cheerleaders, played 28 games with support from 61 volunteer coaches and Minot Air Force Base personnel. The event celebrated local spirit and honored the athletes' determination.  Minot Daily News
