  • Sue Mason found a quilt with Minot AFB patches at a Goodwill store in Arizona and has contacted the Northern Sentry for help identifying its owner—anyone with details is encouraged to share information via Facebook.  Northern Sentry
  • The local phone book is a handy resource featuring school and military contact info and emergency planning tips (including details on a shelter at Edison School) that residents are using to update records and prepare for emergencies.  Northern Sentry

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The North Dakota Department of Commerce has announced a Native American Small Business Support Program that offers awards from $10,000 to $600,000 for eligible businesses operating in state. Applications must be emailed by Jan. 13 and funds must be used by June 30, 2027.  Minot Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • At Minot AFB, residents begin their early Christmas celebrations on Nov. 1 by setting up lights and outdoor decor to beat the winter chill. Many say the tradition brings warmth during dark months, uniting families + military members alike.  Northern Sentry
  • Today, the Minot Community Concert Band performed a free Winter Concert at Minot North's Auditorium under the guidance of conductors Tim and Christine Baumann.   • Prairie Sky Breads is hosting a German Winter Market on the sixth floor of the Aksal Building on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m in December plus it offers guided food tours on Fridays for $15 per person.  KFYR-TV
  • Minot Symphony Orchestra continues its 100th season with two performances of its holiday concert Holiday Magic on Friday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 13 at 3 p.m. at Ann Nicole Nelson Hall at Minot State University (featuring tenor John Swedberg and soprano Megan Kramer).  Minot Daily News

  • A North Dakota coalition submitted paperwork to launch a ballot initiative for free school meals for all K-12 students; if approved, the group, which includes parents, teachers, farmers & advocates, will need over 31,000 signatures to get the measure on the 2026 ballot.  Minot Daily News

  • Minot-based 742nd Missile Squadron manages Minuteman III missiles across 5 alert facilities and 50 launch sites over 8,500 square miles — its crew earned the Schlabach Trophy at the 91st Roughrider Operations Competition and will support GLOBAL THUNDER 2026 and BULLY VIGILANCE 25 2 by leading the Crisis Action Team.  Northern Sentry

SPORTS NEWS

  • Berthold’s Addison Neshem was named SERVPRO Athlete of the Week; she is the only returning player from last year’s Class B all-state girls basketball first team.  KFYR-TV
  • Minot United Hockey started the season with JV and varsity losses on Nov. 21 but rebounded with a 6-1 win on Nov. 29. The team will face rivals Fargo North and Fargo South in upcoming games to build their season momentum.  Northern Sentry
  • Minot State’s men’s basketball team ended a three-game losing streak when they beat the Jimmies 85 to 78 on Thursday, Dec. 4. The team now has 4 wins and 4 losses and will head to Aberdeen to play Northern State University on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot United defeated Jamestown 6-1 at Maysa Arena on Dec. 4 for its third straight win. Forward Landon Slind scored twice and Tate Haugenoe added one late while a strong penalty kill helped the team maintain control.  Minot Daily News
