COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fort Stevenson State Park in Garrison—three miles south of town—will host a family-friendly Halloween Hike on Friday, Oct. 24 and Saturday, Oct. 25 from 7-8 p.m. at the Visitor Center. Children can trick-or-treat and join a Halloween craft while the park charges a $7 vehicle fee unless a current N.D. Parks pass is shown.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot and area residents will join millions in a nonviolent protest against authoritarianism today from 2-4 p.m. along Broadway near Town and Country Shopping Center—participants can also take part in a sign-making session from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Broadway Bean and Bagel.  Minot Daily News
  • Dakota Hope Clinic’s annual Festival of Trees will be held Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21-22, at the North Dakota State Fair Center in Minot—this two-day fundraiser features a dinner and live auction, a 5k run and various family activities with tickets available in advance from Dakota Hope. Funds raised will support the clinic’s free, confidential services for pregnant women and families.  Minot Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • North Dakota Game and Fish is asking for tips on an elk poaching near Goodrich—where a bull elk was shot between 7 p.m. Oct. 10 and 9 a.m. Oct. 11 near 10th Street NE and 19th Avenue NE; anyone with information should call the hotline at 701-328-9921.  KFYR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Minot’s largest public mural is complete after Australian artist Guido Van Helten painted a seven-story work on an old grain silo this summer. The mural shows diverse North Dakotans and the project team still needs to raise $50,000 of its $350,000 goal—funded by community donations and grants.  KFYR-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Minot Intermodal Facility, founded in 2020, ships North Dakota commodities to global destinations by testing products and loading them into 240 shipping containers for two weekly departures. Founder Greg Oberting and General Manager Ryan Stroike manage operations from local truck arrivals to coordinated rail and sea freight logistics — ensuring steady export flow — with support from a dedicated team.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Minot first and third-grade educators can apply for free worm kits that include lesson plans, a worm farm kit and a book from the state agriculture department and Ag in the Classroom program; all materials must be used before April 1 (applications are due Nov. 14).  KFYR-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Andrey Anderson, an 80-year-old Velva resident, earned around 30 medals at Senior Olympics events in North Dakota, Texas and Arizona and has competed for 14 years despite a COVID-19 pause and a hamstring injury. He trains while wintering in southern Texas and encourages seniors to join the open competition—offering events for all abilities.  Minot Daily News
