COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Minot Air Force Base, chaplains help military families start fresh by blessing new homes with prayers and holy water—offering support across various faith traditions. Families may request blessings before moving in, and chaplains also extend their services to vehicles, newborn rooms and pets.  Northern Sentry
  • The Roosevelt Park Zoo now has Kelly Mahoney as its full-time veterinarian—she replaces Logan Wood so he can focus on directing the zoo. Originally from Pennsylvania, Mahoney said she is eager to care for the animals with Wood's guidance.  KFYR-TV
  • Minot volunteer and retired fundraiser Richard Reuer supports veterans’ remembrance by coordinating wreath sponsorships for Wreaths Across America at Pizza Ranch and Rosehill Cemetery—he will join volunteers on Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. to plant crosses at veterans’ graves and his campaign is 85% to its 200 wreath goal.  Minot Daily News
  • Motivational speaker Holly Hoffman delivered a personal talk at Minot State University’s Ann Nicole Nelson Hall on Oct. 15 during the fall event hosted by the Chamber EDC Women Connect Committee.   • North Dakota has a strong rail network with major lines like BNSF and CPKC handling most freight while five regional railroads serve local grain elevators and communities. EDUCATION NEWS

  • A poster contest at Minot AFB brought students together to build drug prevention awareness, with A1C Damian Lalama leading the event that showcased the winning entries by Maeve Holmgren and Wyatt Brown from Dakota Elementary. The award-winning posters are on display at key locations across the base — including the gym, commissary, school liaison office, and exchange.  Northern Sentry
  • High school seniors can attend the Minot Area Career Expo at the North Dakota State Fair Center on October 29th—Minot North and Minot High School students will be bused there to meet guidance counselors about college, military recruitment, and scholarships like the 2026 U.S. Senate Youth Program with a $10,000 award while military-connected students can get details at 168 Missile Ave on Minot AFB.  Northern Sentry

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The ND Department of Commerce updated tourism grant details after correcting earlier misprints as the Scandinavian Heritage Association received a $110,943 Destination Development Grant — and the Boathouse Bunkhouse project in Devils Lake was awarded $235,900. The department also confirmed that $15 million was distributed to 23 projects based on 106 applications from 50 communities.  Minot Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Minot North High School athletes had a busy week as the football team won 26-20 on October 10 and two girls swimmers earned state meet spots at a meet in Legacy, while Student Congress members and the volleyball team competed in regional events.
