COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The North Dakota Community Foundation awarded $227,330 in grants to 61 organizations — including the Minot Family YMCA and Trinity Health Foundation — to support projects such as flood recovery and healthcare scholarships. The board reviewed 133 grant applications in September to determine the awards.  Minot Daily News
  • On Wednesday, Flower Central joined other local florists in the nationwide Petal It Forward Day by giving free bouquets to customers so they could share them with others—owner Niki Brose said the shop ordered 200 pre-made bouquets and partnered with The Difference to support local nonprofit efforts—while past participation saw nearly 300 bouquets given out by early afternoon.  KFYR-TV
  • The CPKC Holiday Train will roll through North Dakota in December as it stops in Minot and Kenmare on December 18—featuring outdoor music, light displays, and performances by Lanco and Tiera Kennedy while supporting food pantries.  KFYR-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • The board of directors of Pheasants for the Future announced today that it has launched a formal investigation into potential misuse of club assets in cooperation with the Minot Police Department—no further details have been provided.  Minot Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • An Australian artist completed a giant mural on the former grain elevator in downtown Minot at the end of September, showing scenes of agriculture and local industry. The Union Silos commissioning group is raising the final $50,000 of a $350,000 goal to add extra project features — local visitors have already celebrated the new artwork.  Minot Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Scandinavian Heritage Park in Minot was awarded a 250,000 dollars Destination Development Grant from the North Dakota Department of Commerce—funds to upgrade the park and preserve its historic features. It is one of 23 statewide projects receiving a total of 15 million dollars to boost tourism and economic growth.  Minot Daily News
  • Despite rising farm bankruptcies nationwide, North Dakota's filings have stayed low with only 10 cases in the past five years—experts say that larger farms benefit from strong cash reserves and valuable land used as collateral. Federal government aid, delayed by a shutdown, may soon help struggling producers cope with prolonged low incomes.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Minot Public Library invites all ages to join the 2025-2026 Sweater Weather Reading Challenge, which runs from Nov. 1 through Feb. 28 and encourages daily 20-minute reading sessions. Preregistration opens Monday, Oct. 27 — three names will be drawn each month to win $25 gift cards for logged reading minutes via Beanstack.  Minot Daily News
  • South Prairie School Board member Steve Eberle received the Veteran Board Member Service Award from the North Dakota School Boards Association at a recent convention+ his award highlights his dedicated service and active participation in state leadership training.   • A soybean farmer said the government shutdown is delaying more than $10 billion in aid for farmers — a delay that adds to burdens from retaliatory tariffs and low commodity prices. He explained that the FSA closure is stopping loan access and leaving him unsure about this year's profits.  KFYR-TV

  • Minot High junior Tayson Solper, named SERVPRO Athlete of the Week, is serving as team captain and filling a key role in the Magi attack after a large senior class graduated last year — his leadership is crucial as the team moves forward.  KFYR-TV
