COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dr. Kelly Mahoney joined Minot’s Roosevelt Park Zoo as its full-time veterinarian in late July and now handles the clinical care of the animals—she checks on the Amur tiger cubs daily and plans to expand voluntary care routines for other species. Dr. Logan Wood shifted to full-time director, and Mahoney’s expertise will help enhance the zoo’s health services.  Minot Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Area high school students will gather at Minot State University on Wednesday, Oct. 15 for the 25th annual SRT Tech Day, an all-day event featuring business and technology competitions. They will also attend sessions with cybersecurity expert Thomas Blado and entrepreneur Jazmine Schultz.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot State University’s School of Business, Math, and Technology will host NODAKON on Oct. 16 at the Student Center Conference Center and Model Hall. The event will offer free community sessions starting at 10 a.m. — including a Cybersecurity Summit and guest speakers on cyber fraud, defense, and post-hack steps — with a free lunch at noon and later sessions exclusively for MSU students.  Minot Daily News
  • Burlington-Des Lacs Elementary celebrated its first Blue Ribbon honor on Friday when students, teachers, and staff gathered in a school gym filled with red, white, and blue—Principal Kayla Anderson said the award shows the staff's strong dedication as they proudly marked their high academic achievement with State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler in attendance.  KFYR-TV

  • The North Dakota Job Service launched the Job Pod podcast during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 to help residents explore job opportunities and career changes—listeners can continue accessing it for current employment options.  KFYR-TV
  • Minot residents felt relief as the Third Street NE bridge reopened to full traffic Friday after months of repair work addressing deck joints, spalls, concrete, and lighting—helping ease daily commutes.  KFYR-TV
  • The City of Minot has announced its landfill at 4450 37th Ave. SW will begin winter hours on Oct. 13 with operations from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and its household hazardous waste drop-off site will remain open year-round—allowing residents to dispose of old paint, pesticides, and other items without waiting for special collection events.  Minot Daily News

  • Tel Sorenson—injured while battling last year's historic fires—will ride in the Badland Circuit Finals in Minot this weekend. His return marks a determined comeback after his head injury.  KFYR-TV
