BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Motorists in southeast Minot face delays today near 13th Street and 21st Avenue SE as a lane is closed for the construction of a new Circle K station—northbound traffic and drivers leaving the avenue are affected. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes until the work is completed. KFYR-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dakota College at Bottineau hired new healthcare faculty for its Minot and Bottineau campuses this fall—Jill Erickson now teaches nursing at Trinity Health Center West while Roxanne Baker and Mary Gorder join as nurse instructors. The college also named Rhonda Edwardson as associate professor and Dental Programs director at its downtown campus as it expands healthcare and dental programs. Minot Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The government shutdown is affecting military operations as Air Force personnel work normal duty without pay while non-essential civilian employees remain off duty until Congress approves funding—Minot Air Force Base was contacted for comment. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Officials are asking Minot, Surrey and Burlington residents to review the draft Metropolitan Transportation Plan that includes projects like Broadway improvements by 2030 and a roundabout at County Roads 17 and 14. Public meetings will be held and feedback accepted until Oct. 27—each comment will guide projects—through 2050. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Local agencies report that the federal shutdown may affect pay for National Guard drills while key services such as TSA screening and airport operations continue today—tribal and state agencies are working to sustain essential programs and public safety in the area. Minot Daily News
- ➤ Maj. Gen. Jason Armagost, a former commander at Minot AFB, said upgrades to the B-52 are needed to extend its lifespan—modernizing its engines, radar, and systems for new mission capabilities. Senator John Hoeven noted that delays have occurred but work on these improvements will move forward to keep the bomber central to the nuclear deterrence strategy. Minot Daily News
- ➤ The North Dakota Public Service Commission will hold two public input sessions on Oct. 13 where Xcel Energy will present its rate increase proposal to electric customers—one session at noon and another at 6 p.m. will be held in person at Minot City Hall and three other locations with comments also accepted by phone and in writing. - ➤ Oliver Thompson, the only senior on the Minot High boys tennis team, was named SERVPRO Athlete of the Week for his role as a leader and his 6-1 singles record in conference play—he helped his team finish with a 5-2 dual record despite a major roster change last season. The Magi will compete in the WDA Tournament today at 10 a.m. against No. 6 Jamestown in the quarterfinals. KFYR-TV
