- ➤ 2000 Trees for Minot received the Volunteer Organization of the Year Trees Award at the Trees Bowl ceremony in Fargo on Sept. 13 when Tim Baumann and Donna Bye accepted the plaque from State Forester Tom Claeys and NDSU President David Cook—acknowledging their plan to plant 2000 trees in Minot by 2026. - ➤ The North Dakota Board of Higher Education appointed former Lt. Gov. Brent Sanford as the University System commissioner during a meeting at Minot State University on Sept. 23. Sanford, who served as interim chancellor since April after Mark Hagerott stepped down, said his government experience fits the role well + the board approved title changes for several system positions. - ➤ Minot recycling leaders said that if the City Council passes the proposal on second reading the mandate will be lifted in April — monthly recycling costs will remain $2.60 for next year. KFYR-TV
- ➤ State leaders are planning to improve Highway 52 from Minot to Voltaire by studying an expansion from two to four lanes. Area citizens will meet next week, with a meeting Monday at Velva Public School gym and another Tuesday at Sleep Inn and Suites in Minot—providing a chance to discuss the project. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Early this month, the first Minuteman III silo at F.E. Warren Air Force Base was taken offline after its Launch Facility was decertified—part of a transition to the new Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile system. The update will not affect current missile alert readiness as the modernization effort continues at Minot and Malmstrom. Minot Daily News
