COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Minot Park District and Roosevelt Park Zoo announced today that the zoo has once again earned accreditation from the Association of Zoos—joining 254 facilities worldwide that meet strict standards in animal care, conservation, education and guest services. This achievement reflects the dedicated work of the zoo team and its partners to uphold high-quality care in our community.  Minot Daily News
  • Over the summer, Aspire Credit Union celebrated its three-month partnership with Souris Valley United Way by hosting monthly donation drives in its lobby—collecting household items, period packs, and food donations for local families, schools and those facing housing insecurity. The credit union later donated a tent as a central drop-off point—also presenting a symbolic $500 check to support the United Way's ongoing work.  Minot Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Don Larson, co-founder and longtime leader of the Dakota Territory Air Museum, died Thursday at his home at age 88—he helped build the museum and aided plans for the new airport terminal. His work shaped local aviation history.  Minot Daily News
  • The long-empty building that once housed Borrowed Bucks Roadhouse has been purchased and will be turned into a concert and wedding venue —after more than two years of vacancy—.  KFYR-TV
  • At the 2025 Norsk Hostfest at the State Fair Center in Minot, doors will open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, and the opening ceremony will be at 2:30 p.m. with a concert by Norwegian country singer Bjoro Haland at 3 p.m.—festival admittance will close at 7 p.m.  Minot Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jeremy Johnston from Rugby and Julie Johnson from Our Redeemer’s in Minot were chosen to represent North Dakota on Fox’s The Floor — their season will premiere Wednesday at 7 p.m. after they competed in Ireland among 98 contestants and formed new friendships during filming.  KFYR-TV
  • Starting next fall, Minot State University will offer a Bachelor’s in Innovation Engineering and a Master’s in Mental Health and Substance Use Counseling pending approval by the Higher Learning Commission—each program is designed to meet local workforce needs. The university will add new professors and charge no program fee to make the courses more accessible.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Authorities announced that the intersection at 16th Street and 11th Avenue Southwest will reopen to full traffic tomorrow and the stretch north to Burdick Expressway will open with a temporary signal until November — crews will continue long-term improvements south of 11th Avenue Southwest through mid-October. Drivers are urged to plan ahead and use alternative routes as intermittent lane closures may occur in November.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot will host a public engagement panel on Sept. 30 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall where residents will hear the three finalists for the next city manager—Tom Joyce, acting city manager; David Lakefield, finance director; and David Kees, a business development contractor from Texas.  KFYR-TV

  • Many North Dakota families struggle with mounting medical expenses that challenge those with children who have special health care needs + high deductibles add to the burden. UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation offers grants to help pay for therapies, equipment, and prescriptions + experts advise parents to review benefit details with their employers.  Minot Daily News

  • Today on the Dakota Drive, Sports Director Luke Gamble interviewed Minnesota State wide receiver Gage Florence who leads the Northern Sun Conference in receptions and broke his school record—Bismarck Bobcats Head Coach Garrett Roth returned after a Robertson Cup win while North Dakota State baseball commit Kyler Kudrna, a Dickinson senior, readies to join the Bison next season.  KFYR-TV
