COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Marketplace Foods, an employee-owned store in Minot, was honored earlier this week with the 2025 Community Service Award by the N.D. Grocers Association for raising thousands of dollars for local groups—recognizing the efforts of all its employees across four locations.  KFYR-TV
  • Community Action Partnership of North Dakota announced WX Force is recruiting weatherization workers in Minot, Bismarck, Dickinson, Devils Lake, Fargo, Jamestown and Williston to help low-income residents lower utility bills and improve home safety. CAPND is also seeking leaders in Williston—an area with a growing need—to guide new staff and shape the program's future.  Minot Daily News
  • Army veteran Chance Miller, who was injured during his three-year service and moved to Minot after a medical discharge, now uses peer support groups—like Vets for Vets—to aid his recovery while launching his mobile detailing business, Last Chance Detailing. He aims to build a stable future for his family and help fellow veterans overcome their challenges.  KFYR-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The North Dakota Department of Commerce has relaunched Innovate N.D.—a program that gives entrepreneurs up to $25,000 in two six-month phases to grow and validate business ideas. The program aims to strengthen local businesses and welcomes applications by Oct. 2.  KFYR-TV
  • At the ND Petroleum Council Annual Meeting, oil leaders said that even though prices are lower than expected, there is still big opportunity in the Bakken — officials plan to boost production using enhanced recovery techniques and new technology, while mergers like ExxonMobil's have led to job cuts. This discussion comes as federal and state lawmakers show support for oil and gas development.  KFYR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cast members from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies will visit Minot in April 2026 for iMagicon at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds—where a special screening of the first movie is set for April 24, 2026 at Oak Park Theater. Guests include James Saito as Shredder, Josh Pais as Raphael, David Forman as Leonardo, Leif Tilden as Donatello and voice actress Mary Elizabeth McGlynn known for her work on Naruto, Cowboy Bebop and Star Wars Rebels.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ward County Commission tabled a proposed residential and commercial development at Rice Lake due to concerns over road access and safe drinking water, and the developer was told to revise road plans and await North Prairie’s input—commissioners also noted possible conflicts between farmers and future residents. The commission accepted applications for a three-year term on the Community Action Partnership board following Jim Blomberg’s resignation effective Oct. 1, and residents may contact the Auditor’s Office for more information.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot city announced three finalists—Thomas Joyce, David Kees, and David Lakefield—for the city manager position and they will join interviews and public engagement activities on Sept 30. The shortlist was revealed on Sept 17 as the hiring process continues.  Minot Daily News
  • At a Sept. 17th budget meeting, the Ward County Commission asked the Sheriff’s Department to find internal cuts to help fund $229,952 in salary raises—an effort to keep officers from leaving for the Minot Police Department. The commission identified $402,850 in cuts from other budget areas and will meet again on Sept. 24th at 8:30 a.m. to continue discussions.  Minot Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • North Dakota State University Extension Ward County is offering a free 10‑week Aging Mastery Program for adults 55 and older at the Parker Senior Center starting Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 1-2:30 p.m. The program will cover topics like physical activity, sleep, healthy eating and medication management — registration is required as space is limited.  Minot Daily News
