- ➤ Members of North Dakota’s American Legion Posts of the 6th and 9th Districts and their Auxiliary will meet at the Moose Lodge in Minot for their Fall District Meeting on Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. A social begins at 11 a.m. and a meal is served at noon before free bowling at North Hill Bowl, with district officers Scot Post, Kathryn White Bear and Doug Eckert providing membership updates and contest details. - ➤ Smash Factory Burgers and More in Minot announced that it will close tomorrow as it will not renew its lease on its location on 2nd Avenue Southwest—its sister location Better B Cafe in New Town will remain open. KFYR-TV

- ➤ On Sept. 11, the Minot Public School Board met at the Minot Area Workforce Academy and approved financial and compliance reports along with the third reading of the 2025—2026 budget and 2025 tax levy, with business manager Laura Dokken explaining a $401,265 deficit and that final United Healthcare rates will be due by Oct. 1. The board also reviewed enrollment figures showing a slight drop, addressed deferred maintenance concerns, and set the fall calendar including a December 24 holiday break and January 3 resumption. - ➤ Due to unforeseen circumstances, Literacy in the Field has changed venues and will take place at the Minot Public Library on Sept. 20 from 5-7 p.m. It is hosted by Minot Public Library, Minot Public Schools, and Ward County Public Library — featuring guest readers, READ Dogs visits, hands-on projects with community partners, free books for children and door prizes. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Minot City Council met this week to discuss changes to the 2026 budget—including proposals to use sales tax funds for flood protection and property tax relief as well as a potential opt-out for the recycling service; a public hearing is set for Monday, Sept. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall while additional measures include restoring a part-time library position and increasing funds for street maintenance. - ➤ Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 16, the 3rd Street NE bridge in Minot will be closed to all vehicles for about four weeks while crews replace street light luminaires with LEDs, seal deck joints, and repair deck spalls — motorists are advised to plan alternate routes. The city continues work on the more than 80-year-old bridge. KFYR-TV
