- ➤ Minot High FBLA is hosting a Winter Clothing Drive from September 15 to 20 to collect new and gently used winter apparel such as coats, gloves, hats and scarves for families in need. Donations can be dropped off at several local sites and a free shopping-style event will let families choose winter gear—ensuring help for those facing cold weather. Northern Sentry
- ➤ On Thursday, about a dozen Minot residents marched 11 miles in a patriotic ruck hosted by the YMCA to honor the sacrifices of 9/11—Air Force veteran Chris Greek and fourth grader Mallory Gray recalled how that day changed their lives over 24 years ago. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Minot Park District will host its free annual Pumpkin Walk at Woodland Trail from 6 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 10-11 with food trucks and thousands of carved pumpkins lighting the trail, while JLG Architects sponsors the event and organizers aim to reach 2000 pumpkins through pledges with parking available at Dakota Bark Park. - ➤ The statewide nonresident waterfowl license was removed for 2025 so that hunters must choose to hunt in one or two of six new zones during two separate seven-day periods — a change designed to spread out hunting pressure evenly — and all waterfowl hunters now must buy a $5 electronic stamp that funds habitat improvement and youth hunting programs. - ➤ The Lopez twins, Jose and Rafael from the Lopez Gym north of Minot, will make their pro boxing debuts on October 25th at the Minot Auditorium — promoted by North Dakota native Virgil Hill. Their coach took them to Toronto for high-level sparring while the twins, who graduated high school last spring, trained hard for this upcoming event. Northern Sentry
- ➤ The U.S. Men’s National Sled Hockey Team holds tryouts in Minot as over 30 players compete for 17 roster spots under head coach David Hoff — the tryouts include morning practices and afternoon scrimmages at Maysa Arena through Saturday — as the team readies for the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games in Italy. - ➤ Minot North sports teams had strong performances last week. The girls swim team finished second overall with 331 points at the Capital City Invite, the girls golf team earned runner-up finishes at two events with Emersyn winning first at Vardon, the boys tennis team lost both matches, the football team won 28-7 over Fargo South, and the volleyball squad split contests with a 2-1 win and a 0-3 loss.
