COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Minot and Bismarck are competing for a $120,000 grant that would fund up to 30 free summer concerts over the next three summers, and local partner Jazmine Schultz said voters can help by texting MINOT or BISMARCK to 877-409-5525 until Sept. 15—North Dakota has never won this grant before. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Records show that Dollar General has requested a permit for demolition and new construction on 72nd Street Southeast—just off U.S. Highway 2. The company said it will break ground in the coming weeks as it finalizes due diligence. Minot Daily News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Today, a new outdoor exhibit called Magic Pathway has opened at Magic City Discovery Center to let kids and families enjoy a musical walk—its design was inspired by local teen Palmer who lives with spina bifida. Although the center is closed for cleaning until Sept. 18, visitors can still walk through the free exhibit. KFYR-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Approximately 750 area high schoolers attended Futurepalooza at the Minot State University Dome on Monday to explore majors and careers such as radiology and nursing. More than 70 exhibitors from local colleges and employers helped students learn about their options — the event has served the community for nearly two decades. KFYR-TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Trinity Health will host its Hospice Symposium on Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Ann Nicole Nelson Hall on Minot State University. Dr. Jessica Nutik Zitter will screen her documentary Extremis about end-of-life decisions—an event sponsored by Trinity Health and its foundation. Minot Daily News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On Sept. 5, West Fargo Sheyenne’s quarterback Ethan Visness threw a game-winning touchdown with 34 seconds left, giving his team a 31—27 win and dropping Minot High to 0—2 this season. Meanwhile, Minot North won 28—7 over Fargo South to improve to 2—0 on the road and will host Grand Forks Red River on Sept. 12. Minot Daily News
