- ➤ A New Town man, 30-year-old Chozey J. Morsette, was charged for setting a basket of clothes on fire in an apartment in southeast Minot on Monday, Aug. 25—police said he fled before responders arrived—and he was arrested at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday on six counts of endangerment by fire with a preliminary hearing set for Oct. 2 at 11:30 a.m. Minot Daily News

- ➤ North Dakota’s oil production increased by 3.49% in June to 34.5 million barrels at 1.15 million barrels per day, mostly from Bakken and Three Forks formations — natural gas output also rose to 3.4 billion cubic feet per day while rig counts dropped from 32 to 29 and Fort Berthold oil production saw an 8% increase to 161,167 barrels with two rigs. The report from the Department of Mineral Resources shows steady gains in energy output as production numbers are released two months behind. Minot Daily News

- ➤ Minot State University reported a 15% increase in day-one freshmen with 415 new students stepping on campus Tuesday — the largest class in 14 years. The school also saw a 4% rise in transfers, a nearly 9% boost in Canadian students, and a 4.4% increase from Ward County, with first-day enrollment totaling 2,627 students to be finalized by the fourth week. - ➤ Minot residents attended a town hall on Aug 26 to learn about the Sentinel missile replacement project that will swap out old silos for new ones built to modern safety standards. Air Force officials answered questions about local concerns—such as flooding and health studies—and said work might continue until the 2040s. Minot Daily News
