COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The League of Women Voters of Plum Valley and Atypical Brewery have partnered to celebrate Women's Equality Day today and honor local suffrage leaders in Minot. They announced a public event on Friday at 4 p.m. at Atypical Brewery — 510 E. Central Ave featuring food and live music.  Minot Daily News
  • Fort Stevenson State Park will host a Lantern Hike on Saturday, Aug. 30 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. as the fifth event in its Evening Hike Series; the two-mile ranger-guided hike starts at the visitor center trailhead and guests may bring or borrow battery or solar-powered paper lanterns while the park charges a $7 vehicle fee unless a current ND Parks pass is shown.  Minot Daily News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Bottineau teen died when a Chevrolet collided with a disabled 2006 Freightliner and a parked Ram on 80th Street North near the intersection with 17th Avenue North — about 10 miles west of Upham — at 11:45 p.m. on Friday, according to the highway patrol.  Minot Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local historians and Minot State University staff explained that early Native American names—Plum River, Plum Valley, and Plum Creek—come from an era when wild plums grew abundantly in the valley, with a Hidatsa elder confirming that 'Plum River' is the correct name to honor the region's heritage.  Minot Daily News
  • Citizens Alley will host a Meet the Artists event on Thursday, Aug. 28 from 5:30—7:30 p.m. where visitors can meet muralists Arvin Davis, Jr., Cera Pignet, Tessia Samuelson, and Max Patzner, listen to live jazz by Erik Anderson, and enjoy food from Yodabest’s food truck. The event, which celebrates the alley’s transformation into an art destination, is partly supported by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts.  Minot Daily News

  • Minot Air Force Base honored 18 maintainers on Aug 15 in a dedicated crew chief ceremony that recognized their expertise and commitment to keeping aircraft ready. Their names were stenciled on each aircraft to show trust & pride from leaders and peers.  Minot Daily News

  • Veterinarian Michelle Schoenberg lost her home in a 2011 flood and moved in 2012 to a new property where she began creating a peaceful garden retreat on nearly six acres. She has transformed the former pasture into a vibrant space—featuring water features, fruit trees, tree swings and a waterfall built with her son.  Minot Daily News
