CHS SunPrairie announced it will close its grain facility in Ryder on January 30, 2026—while the facility will continue to receive grain through the harvest.

The company said only its CHS assets are affected, as off-farm custom grain hauling will remain available and Dakota Agronomy Partners are not impacted.

Gov. Kelly Armstrong visited Minot Area Workforce Academy and Minot North High School last Friday to meet with students and teachers and highlight training programs in welding and Ag Sciences aimed at filling job vacancies.

He emphasized that these programs will help prepare local youth for future job opportunities.

Midwest Montessori, a new preschool and childcare facility focused on practical individualized learning, will open Monday in Minot across from Minot State after a nearly three-year process with the university’s Development Foundation—founders Caleb and Courtney Heilman plan to raise early education standards with 13 spots available out of 73.

The daycare, which already enrolled 15 children, will open its programs Monday and serve as a hands-on site for MSU early childhood education students — co-owners Caleb and Courtney Heilman led the celebration.

Brooklyn Benno, a graduate student at MSU who was inspired when her father had a stroke, will begin her master’s studies in speech-language pathology at Minot State this fall.

She earned a Notable Senior Clinician award—her personal journey drives her to help both children and adults.

Minot and area students have been named recipients of the North Dakota Dollars for Scholars program for the upcoming school year — the state chapter awarded $262,700 to 161 students statewide while local chapters gave over $1.6 million to 1,529 students.

In Minot, awards ranged from $1,000 to $2,000 and went to students including Arin Oster, Faith Malsom, Jessica Kesler, Lydia Repnow, Ty Hughes, Addyson Hughes, Kendra Spitzer, Ella Kesler, and Molly Frueh.

On Aug. 18, the city council approved a plan to create a mini-USO welcome center for airmen at the airport—Minot Area Chamber EDC and airport officials had selected a terminal space, planned to supply volunteer staffing, and agreed to a contract with a marketing swap matching a fair market rent of $5,975 annually. The council now awaits FAA feedback to determine if the lease can be amended to reduce the rent.

District Judge Steven Lautt was sworn in on Aug 22 at the Ward County Courthouse in Minot — state officials praised his service as a lawyer at Pringle and Herigstad, and he will now handle family, criminal, and civil cases in the North Central District.

Minot native Mason Morelli signed a one-year deal with Barys Astana — a Kontinental Hockey League club in Kazakhstan — and will move overseas to continue his hockey career after his time with the Vegas Golden Knights and local teams.
