COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On August 13, 2025, members of the 91st Missile Security Forces Squadron from Minot AFB completed a 40-mile motorcycle ride to Finishline Burgers and Brew in Velva to build team spirit and stress the need for rider safety—seasoned riders mentored newcomers as leaders urged strict use of protective gear after recent local motorcycle accidents. Future rides will expand to include more units in efforts to bolster road safety.  Northern Sentry

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Mi Mexico opened as an authentic Mexican restaurant built by the Lopez family, who finished much of the construction themselves after delays. The restaurant has added a new rooftop dining area and now features family members—many of whom grew up with the business—helping to serve their community.  Northern Sentry

CRIME NEWS

  • Delon Davis, a Minot man convicted of murdering Mark Ramon McMillan and hiding his body in a basement, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole—he may appeal his conviction.  KFYR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Minot Air Force Base will host its annual Air Force Ball on September 20 with a Casino Royale theme and programs for all ranks, including formal dining, speeches, dancing, and on-site childcare. The event will start with a cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m.—ticket sales are underway for those ready to enjoy a night of tradition and fun.  Northern Sentry

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The 2025 Trinity Health Foundation Nursing Scholarship Program is accepting applications from August to November for aspiring nurses. Last year the program awarded 10 scholarships totaling $51,000—candidates must contact Cody McManigal by Nov 1 to apply.  Minot Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Team Minot from the 5th Munitions Squadron won first place at the Air Force Combat Operations Competition held from August 11 through 15 at Beale Air Force Base—winning seven of nine events and beating Seymour Johnson AFB by a narrow margin.  Northern Sentry
  • The U.S. Air Force will hold a Town Hall meeting at Minot State University’s Ann Nicole Nelson Hall at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 26 to provide landowners and community members with an overview of the Sentinel Program—an effort to modernize existing Minuteman III systems—and to answer questions during a 30-minute Q&A session.  Northern Sentry
  • Miss Odette Abbud Aguero began offering free, confidential counseling services at Minot AFB Child Development Center on August 13 at 166 Missile Avenue—she will serve for six months while attending monthly resource meetings to help military families manage stress, parenting, and adjustment issues.  Northern Sentry
  • Crews will begin repairs on the 80-year-old Third Street Bridge Monday as they replace damaged concrete and a faulty bearing, which will require closing the northbound lane while keeping the southbound lane open. City engineer Lance Meyer said if more work is needed the southbound lane may also close and the project should be complete by October — officials will inspect the bridge for further repairs.  KFYR-TV
