CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A bus driver transporting high school students from Minot Air Force Base was arrested Wednesday morning for DUI—he was 65 and taken into custody after base officers reported erratic driving while the students were transferred to a different bus with no injuries. KFYR-TV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Tax Commissioner Brian Kroshus reported that North Dakota’s taxable sales rose by 3.4% in the second quarter, reaching $7.08 billion compared to $6.85 billion last year. Sales in utilities and construction increased notably—Minot posted a 2.4% gain while retail grew modestly. Minot Daily News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Minot Public School Foundation honored two educators at their back-to-school celebration on Tuesday. Melissa Wedar from Washington Elementary School was named Teacher of the Year and Rich Feldner received the North Dakota Geographic Alliance Friend of Geography Award — recognizing his leadership. - ➤ Minot Public Schools updated meal rules today — reducing sugar in cereal, yogurt and milk and raising free meal income limits to 225 percent — and five schools now offer breakfast in the classroom for all students; families can apply online for free and reduced meals. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Minot State University Development Foundation has partnered with Midwest Montessori to open a new daycare and preschool near the MSU campus at 812 8th St NW — the grand opening on Friday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. will include a ribbon cutting, remarks from education leaders, and public tours from 2-4 p.m. Minot Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A collapsed sewer main forced the closure of Sixth Street Southwest between 13th and 14th on August 20, with repairs expected by evening. City crews replaced broken gate valves on a water main on Sixth Avenue Northeast on August 19 to fix an outage that affected many properties, and another outage occurred at 10th Street and 11th Northwest during an ongoing replacement project. - ➤ The U.S. Air Force will hold a town hall meeting on the Sentinel Program Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Minot State University’s Ann Nicole Nelson Hall—open to community members with a 30-minute Q&A session to discuss the program's projected impact on nearby areas. Minot Daily News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The South Border Mustangs will play nine-man football in Region One this season after leaving Region Four — the team faces new challenges in a different competitive group. Head Coach Evan Mellmer said the team is excited to keep its run-oriented style and will open on the road against Richland on Friday. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Lola Huber played on the Dakota Junior Golf tour this summer with eight top-five finishes in 11 tournaments after starting golf in middle school—she became the first at St. Mary’s in six years to win medalist honors and won two tournaments as a junior. She now works with her brother on weekend rounds and plans to play college golf. KFYR-TV
