- ➤ Minot Air Force Base celebrated the opening of its new Airmen Ministry Center on Aug. 8 to provide Airmen a welcoming space where they can relax, connect and enjoy games. The center — first managed by the Chapel Team and set to be run by volunteers under the HOPE Program — offers areas for movies, gaming and conversations that boost morale among all ranks. - ➤ Minot Police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old male found in a northeast parking lot on Aug. 13 at 12:51 a.m.—first responders tried to help him, but he was pronounced dead and has not been identified. Minot Daily News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Operation Homefront is offering free school supplies to military families across ND after collecting over 1,000 donations from Dollar Tree stores—Minot families can pick up items like crayons, pencils, and backpacks at the Armed Forces Reserve Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today while supplies last. - ➤ STARBASE ND started the 2025-2026 school year at North Plains Elementary on August 14 and offered 25 hours of hands-on STEAM activities for fifth grade students. Amid uncertain funding, two STEAM teachers were reassigned while Office Manager Powell and Director Dawson continued at STARBASE ND through September 30 — hoping for additional funds — to keep the program running. - ➤ North Dakota agencies will launch a Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign from Aug. 16 to Sept. 2 to remind drivers that impaired driving is dangerous and illegal—Minot Police and NDDOT will enforce traffic laws and urge planning for a sober ride. Minot Daily News
- ➤ North Dakota plans to build a Military Gallery at the ND Heritage Center on the state Capitol grounds to share its military history—$39 million has been approved while fundraising will push the total to $78 million so it can open in 2027. Local leaders and military officials shared the plan with Minot residents to honor the sacrifices of state service members. Northern Sentry
- ➤ The 5th Munitions Squadron from Minot Air Force Base is competing today at Beale AFB through Aug. 15 in a contest that tests munitions skills and teamwork. The team has trained with drills to improve times and reduce mistakes after a near-win last year—aiming to secure first place this year. Northern Sentry
- ➤ The intersection of 16th Street and 11th Avenue NW near Minot High School remains closed after heavy rainfall delayed repairs. City crews expect to reopen the intersection by mid-September and school officials advise parents, staff and students to follow alternate routes during the early weeks of school. KFYR-TV
