COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On July 27, members of the 69th Bomb Squadron named four Amur tiger cubs at Roosevelt Park Zoo during International Tiger Day celebrations. The unit unveiled the names Buffy, Afkai, Brogan and Koshmar—each reflecting its heritage—and families joined community members in Minot to celebrate together.  Northern Sentry

CULTURE NEWS

  • Artist Guido Van Helten is transforming a downtown grain elevator into a massive work of art and plans to finish the project before it gets cold this fall—an effort that is attracting interest from local business owners and visitors. The renovation is expected to boost downtown tourism by adding a unique and colorful landmark to Minot.  Northern Sentry

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ward County Jail Commander was recognized for his opioid treatment program that helps inmates manage addiction—officials said the program aims to improve care and safety within the facility.  KFYR-TV
  • Minot Air Force Base held a grand opening of its upgraded AAFES Express shopette on July 30, which now offers 24/7 service, hot food, a new coffee station, and separate entrances from the auto shop — a change that shows its commitment to serving base personnel. The renovations also created a dedicated area for Hunt Brothers Pizza and a beer section, and store Manager Elena Kilpatrick said the updates will make life easier for airmen and their families.  Northern Sentry
  • Minot Air Force Base will host a Mission: Transition — Strengthening Our Military Families workshop on November 5th at the Jimmy Doolittle Center as part of National Veterans and Military Families Month. Four on-base organizations, one off-base stakeholder, and the base library will lead one-hour sessions offering hands-on activities to help military families manage transitions.  Northern Sentry

SPORTS NEWS

  • Minot North Sentinels will begin their second varsity football season this fall as many players from last year’s team are now seniors. The team, which won the AA West region title and reached the state semifinals last season, will kick off on Friday, Aug. 29 at Williston — and will host Grand Forks Red River on Sept. 12.  KFYR-TV
