- ➤ Mayor-elect Mark Jantzer won the special election with over 42% of the vote and will be sworn in as mayor at the council meeting on August 18 — his win leaves a council seat open that may spark a special election if a petition is filed. He said his main tasks are to finish the budget cycle in 30 to 45 days and address key infrastructure needs such as refurbishing City Hall for police and moving the fire station. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Minot residents will be asked their thoughts this fall when the city’s community survey becomes available in mid- to late September, following approval on August 5 to hire OnPointe Insights for a $19,960 project expected to reach 800–1,500 people—local officials plan to share survey results by late October. In related news, the council approved a $335,000 flood buyout on West Central Avenue while rejecting two other properties, and the owner of the rejected properties may file a lawsuit. - ➤ Minot State football started practice earlier this week as the Beavers aim for a historic season after posting their best record since 2010. The team brings back redshirt senior quarterback Carson Chrisman and running back Evan Lovett—key leaders from last season—and will open with road games at Emporia State on Aug. 28 and Minnesota State the next weekend.
