- ➤ Magic City Discovery Center announced today that it has hired a new Executive Director—whose local experience is expected to guide the center’s future programs and community events. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Tollefson’s Retail Group will host 'Tailgate with the Tollefson’s,' a free community celebration honoring 100 years of service and local legacy. The event takes place on Aug. 13 at Carpetland on S. Broadway from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. — it offers free food, axe throwing, mini golf, jumping castles, giveaways and surprises for all ages. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The North Dakota Highway Patrol identified Duane Biewer, 73, as the victim of a crash on U.S. Highway 83 south of Minot on Aug. 1—he was driving his Geo Metro when a Ford Escape driven by Jennifer Hartman rear-ended him, and Biewer died at the scene while Hartman suffered non-life-threatening injuries. - ➤ On Aug. 2, a 21-year-old Minot man died in a crash on the U.S. Highway 83 West Bypass when his speeding 2021 Tesla Model Y left the roadway near the Fourth Avenue Northwest overpass — the North Dakota Highway Patrol said the driver, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained fatal injuries and the crash remains under investigation. - ➤ Federal funding cuts to disability advocacy services in North Dakota will limit programs including voting and employment assistance — the changes take effect Oct. 1. The state agency has contacted federal lawmakers — warning that the cuts may reduce essential services for thousands of residents with disabilities. Minot Daily News
- ➤ North Dakota’s 2025 small game, waterfowl and furbearer regulations are set with key changes including residents beginning waterfowl hunting Sept. 27 and nonresidents starting Oct. 4, an increase to six nonresident waterfowl zones and a new waterfowl habitat restoration stamp requirement — the rules also extend geese shooting hours to include Fridays from Nov. 28, raise the river otter quota to 30 and extend fox and coyote night hunting to May 31, with printed guides available mid-August from the North Dakota Game and Fish Department. - ➤ Hunters may apply with the ND Game and Fish Department by Aug. 20 for a 2025 swan hunt license, with residents paying $10 and nonresidents $50+ A total of 2,200 licenses will be issued for a season starting Oct. 4, and applicants must have the proper game and waterfowl licenses. - ➤ The Minot Honeybees will open the Northwoods League Championship Series today at 6:35 p.m. at Corbett Field against the dominant Madison Night Mares; the team improved by 11 wins to finish at 21-21 and must rely on strong first-inning hitting and pitching adjustments to overcome an uphill battle in head-to-head matchups.
