BUSINESS NEWS

  • Burger Time on South Broadway closed its doors after more than 20 years of service—its posted signs thanked customers for their support. The restaurant was known for its large burgers, thick milkshakes and cheese curds, leaving local fans missing a classic dining spot.  KFYR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Isabelle Breding (101 years old) from Powers Lake continues to enjoy yodeling and playing several instruments while living in an assisted living home in Stanley; she also recalled working on a film with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kay Mayer signed her contract on July 24 to be the new high school principal at Surrey Public School and has begun her role—she replaces Tina Webb who resigned due to issues with the previous administration. The board said David Gerding will resign next week—pending a buyout—ensuring a smooth transition before classes start Aug. 12.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Minot acting mayor Mark Jantzer, who has served on the City Council since 2008 and worked with community leaders, is running for mayor on Aug 5 along with three other candidates. He says his experience prepares him to improve city services, manage taxes, and boost economic development & enhance collaboration with local partners.  Minot Daily News
  • On July 20, the U.S. Air Force, in partnership with Northrop Grumman, completed a full-scale qualification test of the stage-two solid rocket motor for the new Sentinel ICBM at Arnold Air Force Base using a vacuum chamber—this milestone is a key step in modernizing the nuclear deterrent that will replace Minuteman III missiles at bases including Minot AFB.  Minot Daily News
  • Ten out of 23 employees returned to the Center for Persons with Disabilities in Minot after being let go in April due to federal cuts, following a budget review and an unexpected funding boost. The center picked returnees based on the programs that will continue to receive funds — although job security may still be uncertain.  KFYR-TV
  • On Aug. 1, the 818th Engineer Company of the North Dakota Army National Guard will deactivate at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Minot—its colors will be cased as it reorganizes with the 817th Engineer Company in Jamestown.  Minot Daily News
