  • The North Dakota State Fair honored service members on Tuesday with Military Appreciation Day by offering discounted rides and hosting a Military Beef Picnic organized by the ND Stockmen’s Association, ND Beef Commission, and CattleWomen. More than 1,000 guests attended the picnic — marking its 20th year — as the fair celebrated a tradition that began when servicemen returned from duty abroad.  KFYR-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A South Florida man recounted a close call in which a plane & a B-52 nearly crossed paths near Minot during a state fair, leaving witnesses shaken.  KFYR-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Hope Marie Burd, 38, pleaded guilty on July 17 to two narcotics felonies at North Central District Court and was sentenced to three years in state prison with credit for 116 days served and a $2,700 fine while four other charges were dismissed.  Minot Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ward County commissioners reviewed a $68.7 million draft budget and cut $468,517 but still needed to eliminate about $1.2 million to keep the tax levy under the state’s 3% cap. They will next examine staffing and benefits (including pay and health insurance issues) as well as potential cuts to dues (totaling $40,800 a year) to meet their target.  Minot Daily News
  • The Minot City Council approved a $238,909 bid for five 2025 Ford Interceptor Utility vehicles from a Minnesota auto center while debating the lack of local bidding + they also approved projects including a micro-hospital development, a bridge repair contract, a $269,231 MAGIC Fund match for a PACE loan for AGT Foods, an installation readiness grant application, flood protection home acquisitions, and utility improvements at the airport.  Minot Daily News
