- ➤ Today, the North Dakota State Fair opened in Minot at the Fairgrounds for its 60th anniversary and will run until July 26. Visitors can enjoy exhibits — carnival rides, food, and live shows — at the event. Minot Daily News
- ➤ Minot’s second annual Lend-A-Paw 5K Color Run will take place at Oak Park on August 9, starting at 9:30 a.m. with a vendor festival and followed by a color run at 10:30 a.m. that celebrates mental health awareness & honors service animals while offering fundraising opportunities through personal donation pages. - ➤ A well-known leaning barn on Highway 83 near Minot AFB collapsed last week—its fall ending a symbol that many locals and Technical Sergeant Dorian Garland saw as a mark of strength during tough times. - ➤ The State Supreme Court upheld Kamauri Kennedy's conviction for the 2021 killing of Domonique Kelley in Minot, rejecting his appeal that cited evidence errors and prosecutorial tactics — Kennedy will remain in prison serving life without parole. KFYR-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Families near Minot Air Force Base have several PreK options available including Head Start, PreK at Glenburn Public School, and a Special Education program through Minot Public Schools. Head Start offers classrooms with 14 to 17 spots and runs Monday through Thursday while Glenburn is full and now uses a waitlist for next school year. Northern Sentry

- ➤ Minot's special mayoral election is coming soon and a new rule requires absentee ballots be delivered in person by 7 p.m. on Election Day with Ward County ballots due by 7 p.m. on Aug.5 — postmarked ballots will not be accepted. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Minot City Manager Harold Stewart said the new state law capping property tax increases to 3% has forced local government to cut positions, training, travel, projects and equipment—raising concerns over a downgraded fire rating as funds to match a grant fall short. - ➤ U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress aircraft, airmen and support equipment from Minot deployed to Andersen Air Force Base in Guam on July 8 to support joint training exercises with international partners—this move reinforced strategic deterrence and bolstered defense integration in the Indo-Pacific region.
