  • Citizens Alley in Minot hosted the ‘Thursdays Downtown’ event—community members gathered to enjoy a local downtown celebration that promotes neighborhood engagement. Organizers said the event supports efforts to revitalize downtown life.  KFYR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 46th annual Norsk Høstfest will take place Sept. 24-27 and organizers are seeking hundreds of volunteers to help with tasks like scanning tickets, assisting in the Scandi Kitchen, setting up, and selling tickets. Volunteers will earn free daily admission, a t-shirt, a pizza coupon, and concert ticket discounts—sign up now to secure preferred shifts.  Northern Sentry

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality said it is monitoring Canadian wildfires as forecasted weather will bring smoke into the state in the coming days which may lower air quality. The agency advises people—especially those with respiratory issues—to limit outdoor activities and check air quality updates as conditions change.  Minot Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Monday’s council meeting, Minot City Council voted 4-2 to have staff draft a local preference bidding policy — which would let local companies match nonlocal bids — while also reviewing a consultant’s study on airport roadway improvements to ease traffic flow. The council also debated charitable gaming rules but took no action to change local requirements.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot Area Chamber EDC announced that Keli Rosselli-Sullivan completed a rigorous Certificate in Workforce Development Fundamentals program — offered by the ACCE Foundation and IEDC — making her one of just over 150 professionals to earn the certificate. She now uses her enhanced skills to support local workforce initiatives and improve childcare policies on the City Council’s committee.  Northern Sentry
  • Minot City Council member Paul Pitner, who served for seven years, said he is running for mayor to relax housing rules and boost new development — a plan he believes will help lower housing costs and keep young adults in the city.  KFYR-TV
  • Gov. Kelly Armstrong and state agency leaders visited the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians in Belcourt Thursday to strengthen state-tribal partnerships and set shared priorities on health care, education, workforce, public safety, and wildfire support. The meeting was part of his plan to visit all five tribal nations and to listen to local needs (a step toward more actionable solutions).  Minot Daily News
  • Minot AFB hosted its first Combat Ammunition Production Exercise from June 22nd to 27th to test Airmen’s ability to mass-produce conventional munitions in a simulated wartime scenario. About 248 personnel from bases including Beale, Kirtland, Malmstrom and Vandenberg worked through long shifts and produced over 1,200 assets for a net explosive weight of more than 350,000 pounds — a new record that showed the base's readiness — highlighting its key role in meeting combat demands.  Northern Sentry
  • The U.S. is appealing a federal judge's ruling that awarded $28 million in damages to North Dakota—an award given for the federal government's response to Dakota Access Pipeline protests.  KFYR-TV
