GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Minot City Council approved a new deputy police chief position today to replace one of three captain roles. • Minot City Council tabled a revised flood control plan for the MI-8/MI-9 segment to let engineers spend two weeks reviewing the design after a cost-saving proposal left Tim Smith’s frac sand company at risk of flooding. The change, which would have ended levee construction before a major commercial property—saving $4.5 million—raised strong concerns from local business owners.  Minot Daily News
  • Josiah Roise, a Minot native running for mayor, is campaigning as a constitutional mayor by proposing to merge the police department and sheriff’s office to save money and give power to the people—he filed enough signatures in two days for the Aug. 5 special election while facing legal disputes with both agencies.  KFYR-TV
