GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Minot police officers Cullen Hall and Tyler Burtch were awarded the Medal of Honor—North Dakota’s highest recognition for exceptional bravery—for their response to a fatal officer-involved shooting during a domestic call in October and have since returned to duty.  KFYR-TV
  • U.S. Census Bureau estimates show that North Dakota’s population is becoming older and more diverse. The data indicate that the median age reached 36 in July 2024 and the number of residents aged 85 or older hit a five-year high — with South Pacific Islander figures rising 27.5% — which signal important demographic shifts statewide.  Minot Daily News
  • At a Chamber forum in Minot, mayoral candidates outlined their plans and priorities if elected + they discussed how they will address community issues and improve local services.  KFYR-TV
  • Minot mayoral candidates discussed city spending and priorities at a forum on Wednesday at City Hall, where they reviewed plans to adjust tax funds, reserve balances and flood protection. They proposed lowering property taxes and cutting regulations to boost economic development — and all plan to run in the Aug. 5 municipal election.  Minot Daily News

  • Trinity Health in Minot added a new 4WD ambulance to its EMS fleet on Wednesday—its unveiling showcased an investment in patient safety and improved emergency response. Community partners, donors and the Trinity Health Foundation raised $250,000 to purchase the vehicle, which is now the second of its kind in the fleet.  Minot Daily News
  • Today, Catholic Charities North Dakota in Minot, Bismarck, Fargo and Grand Forks received one of three 2025 Maternal Health Grants from Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota Caring Foundation to improve maternal health by providing transportation and parent education – support services to help families. The grant comes as a study by North Dakota State University Center for Social Research revealed gaps in prenatal care and postpartum support.  Minot Daily News
