COMMUNITY NEWS

  • MAFB will host Freedom Fest 2025 after the cancellation of BUFF Bash and the Base Open House. The event will feature patriotic STEAM activities at the base library from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and a kid zone with games at Rockers parking lot from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. — a fireworks display at Bud Ebert Park planned for June 27 that may shift to June 28 if weather is poor.  Northern Sentry

CRIME NEWS

  • On June 16, the North Central District Court in Ward County sentenced several defendants from Minot for domestic violence, DUI, and disobedience charges with jail time, probation, fines, and required courses — and on June 17 in Mountrail County, a Watford City defendant was sentenced for theft and drug paraphernalia offenses — showing active enforcement of local criminal laws.  Minot Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today the Scandinavian Heritage Association kicked off its annual Midsummer Festival at 4 p.m. in Scandinavian Heritage Park in Minot and the free event will run until Sunday. The festival features a bonfire, live music, vendors and a parade at 7 p.m. today—organizer Kae Watson said an outdoor stage was added with a donation from the Aggie Foundation.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Homeschooling at Minot AFB has grown with 116 military-connected K–12 students and 25 preschoolers enrolled this year compared to 88 last year—an increase of 62%. Local support comes from groups like Brilliant Minds Homeschool Group and Minot Homeschoolers, which offer structured lessons, activities, and resource access at Minot AFB.  Northern Sentry

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Public Works Department is managing eight construction projects this year, including flood control, water main replacements, and a sanitary sewer lining project. The projects have a total price tag of $153,635,565.32, with $142,144,457.45 set aside for flood control.  City of Minot
  • Today, the Engineering Department is managing 13 infrastructure projects using $11 million in City funds plus state and federal dollars that bring the total value to about $43 million—projects include road repairs, sidewalk upgrades, and traffic signal improvements across the city.  City of Minot

  • Military families moving in or out of Minot have a guide for PCS moves, which run from mid-May to the end of September—tips include packing blackout curtains, cleaning supplies, and labeled boxes—and advice for using local libraries and community events.
