COMMUNITY NEWS

  • During Memorial Day weekend, families at Minot AFB and local neighborhoods welcomed summer with outdoor activities, from fishing at Lake Metigoshe to backyard cookouts (honoring Memorial Day traditions).  Northern Sentry
  • A free car show benefitting Easterseals Goodwill will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at ABRA in Minot. Attendees will enjoy vendor displays, food trucks and a chance for a military service member to win a refurbished car.  KFYR-TV
  • Team Law won the Battle of the Badges blood drive contest by defeating Team Fire 123-116, with Master Officer Carrie Young holding the trophy (the contest aimed to generate the most donors) in Minot. This win highlights local efforts to support lifesaving donations.  Minot Daily News
  • The 2nd Annual Minot 5/6 Fishing Tournament took place at Lake Darling on Saturday, May 16, with 23 teams and 45 anglers competing from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Organizers awarded cash prizes, trophies & fishing gear, and a 37-inch northern pike was named the biggest catch.  Northern Sentry

CULTURE NEWS

  • Minot’s summer music scene offers free concerts at Citizens Alley from June 4 to August 20 via the Levitt AMP Music Series, and the North Dakota State Fair will host concerts from July 17 to 25 featuring local, regional and national talent for all ages to enjoy.  Northern Sentry
  • Elsie Reiswig, a 104-year-old WWII shipyard veteran from McClusky, is honored today with the Rosie the Riveter Congressional Medal+she spent two years in Marin City during the war and later dedicated herself to community service.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mrs. Nathalie Lamarand helped link schools and families at Minot AFB by hosting a Mission: Transition workshop on Feb. 24, 2026, supporting Military Child events in April, and gifting school resources before her PCS to Randolph AFB — her efforts strengthened community ties.  Northern Sentry

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced $4.2 million in grants — with Minot State University set to receive $156,463 to improve support for deaf or hard-of-hearing children. Health centers in Devils Lake and Turtle Lake received funds, confirmed by Sen. Kevin Cramer.  Minot Daily News
  • Col Jimmy Schlabach, commander of the 91st Missile Wing, will retire after a 27‐year career at the base; he led his unit through a standout NSI and will hold a farewell event in July (colleagues praise his strong community impact).  Northern Sentry
  • Sen. Hoeven toured a capped Superfund site on May 28 where plans aim to convert 26 acres into a recreation area with trails and disc golf, pending EPA approval (comments remain open until June 1). He also reviewed a southwest corridor project to ease south side traffic.  Minot Daily News
  • The 5th Bomb Wing held Warbird Week at Minot Air Force Base from May 11-15 to test airmen readiness in realistic scenarios. Lt. Col. Connor Klein and Col. Thomas Taylor noted the exercises improved mission operations and combat preparedness.  Minot Daily News

  • The Bishop Ryan boys golf team qualified for the Class B state tournament for the first time since 2013 after finishing fourth at the Regions 3 & 4 Tournament at Jamestown Country Club on Tuesday, May 26. They will tee off at CrossRoads Golf Club on Tuesday, June 2.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot High's boys golf team finished second at the WDA Tournament on Tuesday, May 26 at Prairie West Golf Course in Mandan—securing one of six state tournament spots for West Region teams. Parker Argent earned medalist honors with a 2-under 70.  Minot Daily News
