- ➤ Marissa Sanders of Glenburn was crowned Mrs. North Dakota American in April and will spend the coming year raising funds and promoting resources for people with disabilities. She works at a Minot hospital and partners with local sponsors to build connections that help rural communities access essential services—efforts fueled by her previous work with children on the autism spectrum. - ➤ The Minot Area Community Foundation announced that the first phase of its 25th Anniversary Match Madness campaign raised just over $170,000 for local nonprofit endowment funds between April 15 and May 16—nonprofits that raised at least $5,000 from outside donors received a matching $5,000 gift from MACF to support long-term giving. - ➤ Work is underway on North Dakota’s largest public mural painted on the Union Silos in downtown Minot. Australian artist Guido van Helten began painting the retired silos as the project costs $350,000—donations are still needed to raise an additional $50,000—and the mural will be completed by fall. - ➤ Airmen with the 91st Missile Wing in Minot joined teams from F.E. Warren and Malmstrom in a test launch of an unarmed Minuteman III missile that lifted off just after 12 a.m. Wednesday from Vandenberg Space Force Base+ the missile flew about 4,200 miles to the Reagan Test Site in the Marshall Islands to demonstrate the nation’s nuclear deterrence.
