COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Minot Parks is opening splash pads today at Radio City Park and Oak Park from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Seasonal adjustments in operating hours may occur as weather permits.  KFYR-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A mechanical failure at the Minot Daily News print facility has suspended the print edition for a second day while staff work to restore production and keep the website freely available; print delivery will resume when repairs are complete and no edition is scheduled Monday due to the holiday weekend.  Minot Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Minot Symphony Orchestra will host the second annual Beat Beethoven 5K fundraiser at Oak Park on June 28 at 5:35 p.m.—runners and walkers must finish before Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony ends to earn a concert ticket voucher, while early live music and post-race entertainment add to the event.  Minot Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Continental Resources will resume drilling in North Dakota before year’s end after pausing new wells amid low oil prices in January, as rising prices near $100 boost confidence; state officials say the move could lead to more rigs plus growth in enhanced recovery.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Minot Public Schools announced Sarah Beckedahl as the new principal of Memorial Middle School — she was previously assistant principal at Jim Hill Middle School where she helped manage school operations and safety. She has spent over 20 years in the district and earned degrees from Minot State University.  Minot Daily News
  • Paula Rauschenberger, after 30 years at South Prairie, was named Class B Speech Coach of the Year and will hand off her role next school year. Crystal Michels earned Class A honor for rising from novice adviser to leading Minot’s speech team — awards set for CSTAND conference in September.  Minot Daily News
  • First-grade teacher Kara MacIver was chosen as Teacher of the Year by Hot Tots in partnership with McDonald's at Longfellow Elementary; her students celebrated with a Happy Meal party and school supply goodies. She will receive free coffee for a year and a $250 gift card while finalists will be honored on June 4.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Work on the Puppy Dog Coulee storm sewer project will cause traffic impacts next week. Starting Tuesday, 24th Ave SW (between 15th and Mall Loop Road) will close with traffic detoured via 22nd Ave SW while a temporary shift on 16th St SW restricts left turns midweek.  KFYR-TV
  • At a May 21 planning commission hearing, Basin Electric explained its plan to repower PrairieWinds while residents raised concerns about hauling damage on County Road 22 & 27th Street. The permit request was tabled pending Public Service Commission and FAA reviews.  Minot Daily News
  • Construction on the Puppy Dog Coulee storm sewer project in southwest Minot will alter traffic patterns starting next week. Phase 7A work on Tuesday, May 26 will close part of 24th Avenue SW with detours along 22nd and shift traffic on 16th Street SW midweek so drivers be alert.  Minot Daily News
