  • 2nd Story, a social club for adults with developmental disabilities in Minot, is celebrating its 50th anniversary on Friday with an open house from 4 to 6 p.m.—marking decades of friendship and community support.  Minot Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Minot man named Quantdre Mersier pleaded guilty in North Central District Court on Tuesday to fatally shooting Ansu Kamara in northwest Minot in November 2023 under a plea agreement with Ward County prosecutors—he now faces a 50-year sentence with an initial term of 23 years and has his sentencing scheduled for Oct. 24.  Minot Daily News
  • At the Ward County Courthouse on Wednesday, Delon Davis, a 46-year-old Minot man accused of murdering missing man Mark Ramon McMillan Jr., testified that he shot McMillan in self-defense during an April 1 altercation in a local establishment’s basement—he claimed that McMillan and another man fired first.  Minot Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Director Nathan Anderson of the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources said North Dakota produced 36.987 million barrels of oil in March—a rise from February's 32.631 million barrels—and natural gas output increased to 106.6 billion cubic feet, with rig counts steady at 31 and activity on the Fort Berthold Reservation remaining steady.  Minot Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Minot Public School district and the teachers union did not reach an agreement on a new contract Wednesday evening—both sides will resume negotiations Tuesday, May 27 at 6 p.m. in the Central Middle School auditorium.  KFYR-TV
  • The Dakota Territory Air Museum will host free summer day camps for local students in grades three through six from June through September — sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Each camp — with a maximum of 30 campers and nearly half full — requires registration.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Josiah Roise, the first candidate for mayor, filed petitions with nearly 600 signatures for the Aug. 5 special election—over the required 293. He launched his constitutional mayor website and will hold community rallies this summer while three other candidates must file by June 2.  Minot Daily News
  • The City of Minot Public Works Department held an open house Wednesday during Public Works Week — visitors saw heavy equipment and a sewer camera system that sends images to a computer. Families also received fire hats as souvenirs while getting an up-close look at vehicles like garbage trucks and utility vehicles — offering a hands-on view of city technology.  Minot Daily News
