Minot will host two Memorial Day events on Monday, May 25.

At 10:30 a.m. in Rosehill Memorial Park's Veterans Section, retired Maj. Trygve Hammer will deliver the address while at 11 a.m. in Donnybrook City Hall, retired first sergeant Marvin Baker will speak.

Souris Valley United Way will host Pickle Palooza on Saturday, June 27 from 3-6 p.m. at Citizens Alley, featuring pickle-inspired food sampling, live music from The ChokeCherries & Jared Shumaier, contests, children’s activities and local vendor offerings; tickets and volunteer sign-ups are available by May 29 for free T-shirts.

Local electric co-ops said seven power poles have been hit by farming equipment in Minot this spring.

Spencer Danielson from Verendrye Electric advised that if you hit a pole or get tangled in wires, stay in your equipment (to avoid injury) and call your local co-op immediately.

Klein Fresh Meats (started by local native Casey Klein) will occupy the former Dickey’s Barbecue Pit at 1720 South Broadway, while 7Brew is building a stand at the old Burger Time site; both businesses in Minot are expected to open within the next two months if construction stays on track.

Minot Public Schools named James Swegarden as principal at McKinley Alternative Learning Center and Brian Aufforth as a 10‑month assistant principal at Minot North High School.

Aufforth will start on Aug. 3 pending board approval & Swegarden brings experience as a homebound teacher to his new role.

Minot student Odin Erickson (from Jim Hill Middle School) took second place in the North Dakota Geography Bee held in Bismarck on May 1.

Over 2,000 students competed statewide, with the top 20 advancing from local contests for a final round determining the top five.

Teacher Jenni Braun took her fifth and sixth-graders to the Game and Fish Owls Pond for a hands-on fishing lesson that builds nature skills.

As a finalist in the Kids Choice Awards, votes will be tallied and the winner announced at the Larks game on June 19.

Starting June 1, Minot Public Schools will offer free breakfast and lunch to students 18 and younger this summer.

Meals will be served Monday through Friday with breakfast from 7:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. and lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., except on July 2 and 3.

The Souris River Joint Board said project crews will continue work on the Mouse River Flood Protection Project at Roosevelt Park's entrance and on Eighth Street Southeast, with the park closed today for paving and scheduled to reopen Friday; contractors are coordinating with property owners + monitoring weather conditions.

Trinity Health has contracted with CHI Health at Home and Hospice and CaringEdge (two established local providers) to offer hospice services for Trinity Homes residents.

The transition is complete and patients now have a choice for home health and hospice care.
