COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The North Dakota State Fair launched a free smartphone app that lets visitors search for food vendors, entertainment, and tickets. A printed guide will also be available at the Information Center ahead of the fair running July 17-25.  KFYR-TV
  • A couple in Carpio transformed a shipping container into a free library on Main Street next to the Post Office to boost local reading, and the service has helped children (0-17) since it opened two months ago. The library is registered through Little Free Library.  KFYR-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Livestock owners in Minot are monitoring pastureland prices, which are up 7% this year as rising cattle prices prompt more land purchases for future expansion; cropland prices remain largely unchanged.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Edison Elementary’s Christine Knudsen is a finalist for the Minot Hot Tots Kids’ Choice Awards: Teacher Edition during the final week of classes at Minot Public Schools (Longfellow teachers Angie Dangel and Kara MacIver are also finalists). The Teacher of the Year will be announced Friday, May 22.  KFYR-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wild moose have been seen near Oak Park, so residents are advised to keep a safe distance as Minot Park District confirms that law enforcement + wildlife officials are monitoring the situation.  KFYR-TV
  • Minot Parks reported wild moose in the Oak Park area on Monday, May 19, and warned residents to stay at least 50 feet away (moose can charge at speeds of 35 mph).  Minot Daily News
