COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 93rd Annual Ward County 4-H Achievement Days will take place Monday through Thursday, June 16-19 at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds in Minot, where 287 Cloverbud and 4-H members between 5 and 18 will showcase their talents and skills. The event will conclude with a Livestock Premium Sale at 7:30 p.m. on June 19 — and includes a bonus youth livestock show on June 20, all free to the public.  Minot Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • A murder trial began in Minot over the death of a missing man, and the court is hearing evidence to decide if a suspect is responsible—officials have not shared more details yet.  KFYR-TV
  • A 911 call reported that a woman said Jeffrey Weigel (38) threatened to kill her and responding officers at a northwest home (6 p.m. Sunday evening), and SWAT later took him into custody without incident.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Minot North’s Sentinel seniors will graduate as the school’s first-ever class—marking a historic milestone that sets the stage for new traditions.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Minot announced three finalists for its next chief of police—Michael Frye, Edward A. Orgon, Jr. and Dale Plessas—and invited the public to a meet and greet with the candidates on Wednesday, May 28, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at City Council chambers.  KFYR-TV
  • Minot City Council on Monday approved Kelly Beck as the new HR director for Minot. She has served as HR manager at Farstad Oil since 2015 — where she oversaw about 800 employees — and will begin her duties on June 3.  KFYR-TV
  • Gov. Kelly Armstrong vetoed parts of six budget bills on Monday to block a clause that would let lawmakers avoid prosecution for conflicts of interest and to stop extra spending measures he said undermine fair government. He said his vetoes protect clear budgeting—keeping executive power intact—while lawmakers may later decide if they will act on overturning the vetoes.  KFYR-TV
