ECONOMY NEWS

  • Minot State University professor Andrew Bertsch launched a survey to study motorcycle tourism’s impact on the state's economy and to find out what draws riders to North Dakota—he has collected about 200 responses so far and plans to gather thousands more by late September or early October before completing his report this winter.  Minot Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Director Darrell Francis of Souris Basin Transportation said Minot must find new funding for its door-to-door ride service as on July 1 the city will lose the rural grant that pays for rides for seniors, people with disabilities and low-income residents—without a new plan, 10 driver jobs and thousands of rides will end.  Minot Daily News
  • Drivers in southwest Minot should expect traffic changes starting Tuesday, May 27, as crews begin removing pavement and working on storm sewers for the 16th Street Reconstruction Project — a plan that aims to improve long-term traffic flow, safety, and drainage. A temporary connection between Cook Drive and 18th Street will serve residents west of 16th and south of 14th Avenue, while access to businesses east of 16th will use nearby side streets.  KFYR-TV
  • Minot voters will decide on a half-percent sales tax measure on June 3 that would fund a 30,000 square foot indoor turf facility and reduce the park district’s reliance on local property taxes. If approved, the tax will take effect this fall—supporting new park amenities while shifting some funding from residents to visitors.  Minot Daily News
  • Federal policy changes and budget proposals are reducing essential services for vulnerable residents in Minot. The North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities at Minot State University laid off 23 workers — a move that may soon jeopardize programs like early childhood health screenings and direct support for people in need.  Minot Daily News
  • Crews from the North Dakota Department of Transportation are repairing a culvert at the eastbound ramp at the Highway 2/83 intersection in Minot—motorists are advised to use alternate routes while the ramp remains closed for a couple of weeks.  KFYR-TV
