COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local community members can join the free Kickoff to Summer event on Friday, June 5 from 4-7 p.m. at Scheels Complex at 601 16th Ave. SE, featuring bounce houses, food, games and kickball. The event also unveils the SCHEELS Scholarship, which supports Park District recreation programs (in partnership with SCHEELS).  Minot Daily News
  • Plum Valley League of Women Voters donated $210 to Our Lady of Grace Food Pantry as part of its monthly donation drive for nonperishable food and cash. The group has contributed over $1,000 and hundreds of pounds of food so far in 2026 (supporting local pantries).  Minot Daily News
  • Retired state senator and civic leader Randy Burckhard was honored with the Commander’s Public Service Award at the Nuclear Triad Symposium at Minot AFB today. He has supported the community and served in various roles since 1996 — his leadership inspires local pride.  Northern Sentry
  • ABRA Auto Body Repair Minot will host Cruisin’ for a Cause, a car show benefiting Easterseals Goodwill ND, on Saturday, May 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 629 20th Ave SE in Minot - registrations cost $20 per car and family-friendly activities and giveaways are planned.  Northern Sentry
  • Lieutenant Steve Vaudt of Minot AFB Fire + Emergency Services is recognized for his many years of military and civilian service and his role in mentoring new Airmen at the base. He remains a dedicated leader who builds strong community ties.  Northern Sentry
  • Pizza Ranch employee Richard Reuer wears a sheriff’s outfit on weekend shifts to keep the restaurant fun and tidy, a twist that earned him a Hospitality Hero award in March.   • Dunseith native Lita Davis returned after 23 years and opened Bully Brew Coffee on 10 Main St, offering specialty drinks, soups, and sandwiches for the community. The indigenous-woman-owned business, co-run with her mother Lynn Gladue, is creating local jobs and planning to expand.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents in Minot are urged to attend the Vigilant Parent Initiative (May 21, June 23, July 27) at Minot AFB to learn ways to protect students online after the MPS District ended its parental supervision app.  Northern Sentry
  • Teachers’ union ratified a one-year contract on Thursday that offers pay bumps and changes to healthcare plans (after a previous deal was turned down), while the school board still needs to approve the terms.  KFYR-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Minot North High School posted a strong spring season with key softball wins at Midseason Madness, a state track qualifier on May 8, and solid golf finishes on May 6 and 8, while the marching band performed in Bismarck Band Day, building momentum for postseason play (school pride is high).  Northern Sentry
