- ➤ A contest is underway for a free weeklong summer camp experience at YMCA Triangle Y Resident Camp—a $565 value—for military kids ages 7 to 15 from Minot AFB families. The contest runs from May 13 to May 18 and the winner will be notified via email on May 20. Northern Sentry
- ➤ A memorial service to honor fallen veterans is scheduled for Saturday, May 24 at 5 p.m. at McKinney Cemetery near Tolley — the event will move to the Tolley Fire Department if weather is inclement — and the Minot Air Force Base Honor Guard will present colors while Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4 Commander Frank Senn delivers the memorial address. - ➤ Minot North High School named its mascot Sam the Sentinel at Tuesday's assembly — the decision came from a student vote and arrives as the first senior class prepares to graduate in a week. KFYR-TV
- ➤ The May Parent Cafe will hold a virtual 'Home Alone How-To' event on Wednesday, May 28 from noon to 1 p.m. that reviews North Dakota guidelines for leaving children alone and offers tips for safe home care — certificates of participation for education credits are provided through registration with the Parent & Family Resource Center at the North Dakota State Extension Service-Ward County. - ➤ State agriculture leaders have opened a call for proposals to bring agriculture into classrooms—up to $100,000 in funding will be available over two years and proposals are due June 6. - ➤ The U.S. Census Bureau released July 2024 estimates that showed Minot’s population held steady at 47,440—up by 20 residents from July 2023 and lower than the 48,377 counted in 2020. Burlington and Surrey also saw small gains while many smaller communities continued to decline. Minot Daily News
