  • Bloom, a free event supporting mothers of individuals with disabilities and complex medical needs, will be held Thursday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m. at The Depot and Baggage Claim Bar & Grill at 15 Main St. N., Minot — guest speaker Samantha Rasmussen will share her family’s story while attendees are advised to RSVP by May 19.  Minot Daily News
  • Senior citizens gathered yesterday at the Salute to Seniors event at the Minot Auditorium, enjoying live music, prizes, and over 40 vendor booths while nonprofits like the North Dakota Association for the Disabled—active for 50 years—shared free medical equipment resources. Organizers announced next year’s event will be held on May 12th, with a new theme, Casino Glitz.  KFYR-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Patrick Joseph St. Germaine, 42, pleaded guilty on May 9 and was sentenced to 10 years with credit for 176 days served after a narcotics investigation uncovered methamphetamine, cash, drug paraphernalia, and psilocybin mushrooms at his home, and he must complete three years of supervised probation and a chemical dependency evaluation—details that mark a serious drug case in Minot.  Minot Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Minot State University will hold its 110th commencement exercises on Friday, May 16 with a traditional Hooding Ceremony for master’s degrees at 8 a.m. in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall and the Spring Commencement at 10 a.m. at the Minot State Dome — those unable to attend live can watch on MSU’s YouTube channel while guest speakers include alumna Veronica Pinnick, current student Craig Schmich, undergraduate Emmett Espino, and higher education chair Tim Mihalick.  Minot Daily News
  • At a May 13 school board meeting, Superintendent Scott Faul addressed measles concerns by noting nine cases in Williams County and that about 180 students were isolated after exposure. He said the district would work with health officials on quarantine measures if a case appears—leading to the cancellation of a planned middle school band trip for Saturday.  Minot Daily News
  • Trinity Health donated ultrasound equipment to Minot High School and Minot North High School thanks to a grant from the Helmsley Charitable Trust.   • The City of Minot will host a Peace Officers Memorial Day Ceremony tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. in front of City Hall at 10 3rd Ave. SW—Acting Mayor Mark Jantzer and Acting Police Chief Dale Plessas will attend as Jantzer reads a proclamation declaring May 11—17 as Peace Officers Memorial Week.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot PD and MSU approved a program that lets MSU juniors and seniors serve as Community Service Officers for 20 hours a week while studying, making them eligible for full-time hire after graduation. City Manager Harold Stewart said the program uses $200,000 saved from vacant positions and 50% tuition reimbursement from the state’s Career Builder Program—housing benefits were dropped—while adjustments will be made as full-time openings are filled.  KFYR-TV
