COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Trinity Health Foundation will host the 28th Annual Building Hope Women’s Golf Tournament and 4th Annual Chopper Drop on Monday, June 8 at Souris Valley Golf Course to benefit the CancerCare Patient Assistance Fund. The event will offer prizes and a 50-50 raffle with helicopter-dropped balls to support cancer patients.  Minot Daily News
  • Scouting America Boy Troop 425 will honor its 110th Eagle Scout, Jaxon Thompson, with an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony at noon Saturday, May 16 at Big 4 Scout Camp (four miles west of Minot). The Minot High School senior will study cyber security at Bismarck State College after graduation.  Minot Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Basin Electric broke ground on the 1490 MW Bison Generation Station near Ray on Monday, May 11; the nearly $4 billion project will use combined cycle technology+ require 1000 workers at peak in mid 2027 and employ 50 staff when operational in 2030.  Minot Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Minot Public School Board will meet Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Administration Building board room (215 2nd St. SE) to review enrollment forecasts, gifted education updates, early release plans and curriculum resource requests while holding an executive session to discuss teacher contract negotiations.  Minot Daily News
  • Longfellow teacher Angie Dangel is a finalist for the Hot Tots Teacher of the Year award because she keeps her 24 second graders engaged with fun lessons. The award will be announced on Friday, May 22, and the team will celebrate with the Hot Tots home opener on Memorial Day at Corbett Field.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Motorists in Minot will face road closures this week as crews repair sewer lines on 3rd Street SE between Central Avenue and Burdick, on 16th Street near the mall, on South Broadway, and on First Street SW, affecting access near the post office and Town and Country Shopping Center.  KFYR-TV
  • Native American advocates say the Supreme Court ruling weakens voter protections and gives more hurdles for North Dakota tribes who face a strict voter ID law – adding to existing barriers. Legal experts warn that the new rule requiring proof of intentional discrimination will make future cases more difficult.  Minot Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • North Dakota health officials say the state’s hantavirus risk remains low with only one case this year while urging residents to wear gloves and a mask when cleaning enclosed areas like barns, sheds, and attics (precautions are recommended during spring cleaning).  KFYR-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Law enforcement officers, Special Olympics athletes & community members ran through southwest Minot on May 12 to raise money for statewide Special Olympics events. The run began at SCHEELS outside Dakota Square and ended with a free meal at Buffalo Wild Wings on South Broadway, supporting local athletes.  Minot Daily News
