CRIME NEWS

  • On May 7, Minot Municipal Court processed four Class B misdemeanor cases involving charges of reckless driving, disorderly conduct and petty theft; defendants Cadence Dawn Nostdahl, 20, KC Grant Peters, 36, Canen Allen Ross, 24 and Ashley Dawn Werle, 42 were ordered to complete courses, pay restitution and fines ranging from $25.98 to $775 + additional fees.  Minot Daily News

  • Cassandra Harmon of Minot pays tribute to her late mother this Mother's Day, recalling how her support after a car accident helped her regain independence. Her mother was known for her strong faith, kindness, and love for animals, and Cassandra believes she now watches over her from heaven.  Minot Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two University of Mary students from Minot attended the papal announcement in Rome on Thursday, joining thousands at St. Peter’s Square to witness the election of the first American pope—Leo XIV. The students, part of a 35-member group on a five-week study program, described the conclave as a significant moment in church history—one they will remember for years.  Minot Daily News
  • Trinity Health technicians gave high schoolers from Minot High and Minot North hands-on ultrasound training on Friday after a donation from the Helmsley Charitable Trust allowed Trinity Health to upgrade its machines (previous equipment was given to the schools) to support future healthcare professionals.  KFYR-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, a smoky smell and hazy air affected Minot as winds carried smoke from ongoing Canadian wildfires—Minot Rural Fire Chief Rex Weltikol said the haze was linked to fires in northern Manitoba and parts of Minnesota.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Minot Housing Authority has been coaxing hot water from a failing heat exchanger to aid about 200 tenants at Milton Young Towers until replacement equipment arrives — building maintenance head Kerry Candrian said hot water issues were discovered on April 21 and new equipment is expected in two to three weeks.  Minot Daily News
  • Phase 3 of the Puppy Dog Coulee project will begin Monday as the city closes part of 22nd Avenue SW near McDonald’s at Dakota Square to replace old storm sewers. McDonald’s and nearby businesses will remain open while drivers use a detour along 15th Street SW — ensuring continued access during the project.  Minot Daily News
