BUSINESS NEWS

  • Allegiant Air now offers direct non-stop flights from Minot to Las Vegas (on Mondays and Thursdays) and to Phoenix/Mesa (on Mondays and Fridays), giving travelers a budget-friendly escape with roughly three-hour flights. Passengers can book flights up to six months ahead while active duty military receive benefits such as free checked baggage, one free carry-on, and early boarding.  Northern Sentry
  • Little Blue Elephant launched its food truck at Minot AFB on April 23, serving Thai and sushi dishes on weekdays from 10 AM to 6 PM through July 22. Owner Ken Thedsomboon, who learned to cook in Bangkok and refined his skills in New York and Grand Forks, hopes the contract will lead to a longer stay on base—updates to dates and hours may occur.  Northern Sentry

  • Military families in Minot honor mothers who serve at home and in uniform this Mother's Day, sharing honest accounts of balancing care and duty. Brooklyn Lautt, Angela Peterson, and TSgt Shelby Moore detailed the challenges and rewards of motherhood plus plans for heartfelt celebrations that reflect their strength and dedication.  Northern Sentry

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from many towns won awards in the 2025 North Dakota Junior Duck Stamp contest, where artwork by children in different grades was judged for its creativity and conservation message — Minot’s Gracie Boschert earned third place in the top age group while dozens of others received honorable mentions.  Northern Sentry
  • Last week, Minot North High School held its first official chess tournament at the MAWA building, where sophomore Darian Tyan led his new club that brings together players from middle school to adults and advisor Joseph Super offered snacks and support—demonstrating the club’s goal of face-to-face connection. In addition, the school sports teams had a busy week as the boys’ golf team won at the Souris meet, the softball team won two games, and the baseball team lost four matches—reflecting a mix of success and setback on the field.  Northern Sentry

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Minot Air Force Base, the 5th Civil Engineer Squadron worked to repair aging Cold War-era infrastructure—damaged by extreme winters that cause burst pipes and cracked concrete. Skilled Airmen including electricians, plumbers and heavy equipment operators performed critical repairs to keep bombers and missile fields operational.  Northern Sentry
  • At Minot Air Force Base the Military Family Life Counselor program offers free and anonymous counseling to help Airmen and their families handle military life challenges—like stress over finances and relationships—with referrals to other services when needed. The program assisted 1,569 participants in the first quarter of 2025.  Northern Sentry
  • Between March 30 and April 18, 2025, Convoy Response Forces from F.E. Warren AFB, Minot AFB & Malmstrom AFB completed the Nuclear Convoy Course at Camp Guernsey in Wyoming to train on new assets like the MH-139 Grey Wolf and Payload Transporter Replacement vehicles. The exercise used live-fire drills & threat-based scenarios to validate tactics and improve readiness for future operations.  Northern Sentry
