- ➤ Senior Airman Jonah Bailey and his wife Rebecca have fostered 13 children since 2025 while living on base. They began with a placement of three young brothers (their first placement) and continue to prioritize love and stability despite housing challenges. Northern Sentry
- ➤ Chief Dunn at Minot Air Force Base manages early workouts and long workdays with a strong focus on family, while her daughter Tamryn, a freshman at Minot North High School, balances school and sports with guidance rooted in growth + gratitude. Northern Sentry
- ➤ A local veteran, 96-year-old Corporal Albert J. Jundt, was honored at Somerset Court in Minot when he received a flag flown over the Pentagon, presented by Brigadier General Rebecca B. McElwain (a native of Karlsruhe) in recognition of his decades of service. Northern Sentry
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Minot Shrine Circus shifted its venue from the auditorium to the State Fair Center to handle a large volume of equipment; shows began Thursday and will run through Saturday at the All Seasons Arena. KFYR-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Minot Rotary Scholarship Foundation announced 27 awards for 2026 to high school seniors in Minot and nearby areas. Rotary Club members selected recipients based on academic merit, school participation, and community service. Minot Daily News
- ➤ Minot High School's aviation teacher Mr. Meric Murphy is preparing to retire after decades as a pilot, air traffic controller, and instructor; he will focus on writing a novel (a love story about flight) to share his legacy in education. Northern Sentry
- ➤ Minot High School senior Laykin Feller earned a $2,500 scholarship for her first year of college from the Foundation for Rural Service. SRT praised her achievement and said it shows their commitment to local youth as she prepares to attend the University of North Dakota. Minot Daily News
- ➤ Bree McCarthy will start as the school administrator at Our Redeemer’s Christian School on June 1. She brings 24 years of education experience, including in the Minot Public School District, to strengthen its Christ-centered learning environment. Northern Sentry
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Minot Park District and Roosevelt Park Zoo are hosting Pollinators at Play, Neighbors for Nature to offer community-led pollinator conservation events. The initiative includes native plant restoration at Minot Family Outdoor Recreation Area on Friday, May 16 and Butterfly Education Day at Roosevelt Park Zoo on Friday, June 6. Minot Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Minot AFB was established in 1957 during the Cold War when local leaders helped secure the land (a decision that shaped its lasting role in our community). Today, the base supports about 12,000 people and continues its mission of deterrence and readiness. Northern Sentry
- ➤ State, federal and community leaders met in Medora on May 6 to plan for the July 4 opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library and ND250 celebrations statewide. Gov. Kelly Armstrong stressed that coordinated planning will ensure a safe, well-managed holiday weekend — agencies are ready for America 250 events. Minot Daily News
- ➤ Minot AFB will begin Warbird Week on Monday, May 11 — the base will run active exercise events and loud announcements may cause gate closures and delays, while schools and classes continue normally. KFYR-TV
